George Elliott Warren unexpectedly passed away on Oct. 16, 2021, after an unsurvivable stroke. George was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on May 19, 1943, to Anita Olivotti Warren and Wilbur Wesley Warren Jr. At the age of 16 he met a cute blonde in chemistry class at Washington High School -- they graduated together in1961. Working his way through college at UW-Milwaukee, George cracked a tooth while delivering Coca-Cola and, fascinated by the repair process, chose to attend Marquette Dental School. After graduating in 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Julianne, and served as an Air Force Captain in Goose Bay Labrador, Canada. Two years later they returned to Wisconsin, newborn in tow, and shortly thereafter they started his dental practice in Madison. In 1982, UW Athletic Director Elroy Hirsch asked George to take the helm as UW Athletics Team Dentist, a position he held for more than 20 years before passing the torch to his son and fellow dentist, Robb. George quietly retired from dentistry in 2015.

Always one to live by his motto "Work hard, play hard," George had a wonderfully successful career, as well as a host of adventures with his wife, children, grandkids, siblings, nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
Anyone who met him could see how George was a beacon of happiness and light. He gave everything he had and then some, and somehow brought out the best in everyone. The world will never be the same without our steadfast, generous-to-a-fault Giving Tree.
George was preceded in death by his infant son, Scott Randolph Warren; his parents; his in-laws, James and Elizabeth Harty; sister-in-law, Gail Warren; and several dear friends. He is survived by Julianne, his wife of 55 years; daughter, Wendy Warren Grapentine (Mark); daughter, Meghan Warren McKinney (Scott); son, Robb Andrew Warren (Erin); his grandchildren, Jordan, Alexandra, Quinlan, Padraig, Maeve, Emma, and Claire; as well as his brother, Wilbur Wesley Warren III; sister, Sandy Warren Sironi (Rick); and cherished nieces and nephews, who have all been forever blessed by the extra 19 years with this incredible man in their lives.

As some may remember, George, collapsed during the CrazyLegs run in 2002. Resuscitation was started by a few medical professionals who were also running the race, and he was defibrillated by UW police. In appreciation of the fortuitous availability of that defibrillator, the family started the George Warren Defibrillator Fund which donates AEDs to locations in need.

In lieu of flowers and to celebrate George, we invite you to donate to the fund via Venmo @George-WarrenAEDFund or via mail to George Warren Defibrillator Fund c/o Wilbur Warren, Administrator 1610 30th Court, Kenosha, WI 53144.
A celebration of life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24 at BISHOPS BAY COUNTRY CLUB, 3500 Bishops Bay Drive, Middleton, WI 53562. Several opportunities to share thoughts and memories will be made available throughout the open house remembrance.
