![]() | As a member of the Returning Peace Corps Volunteers of Wisconsin-Madison, Kate shared with us her experience in Ghana (2004-2007) and in Georgia of the former Soviet Union (2016-2017). We learned that the average age of Peace Corps volunteers is 28, with about 63% female. Currently, 7,400 serve as volunteers, with former volunteers numbering 230,000. In Ghana (the former Gold Coast), Kate worked with citrus tree farmers, as well as general management help for small businesses and microfinance organizations. Georgia is a crossroads between Asia and Europe. They term themselves Kartvelians after an ancient indigenous tribe. Kate worked on clearing parts of a long hiking trail (3,000 km) linking the Caspian and Black Seas, as well as more general consulting on environmental issues like flood control and recycling. Partnering for Peace is an organization of Rotarians and returned Peace Corps Volunteers who are working together to build partnerships to create sustainable projects locally and around the world in order to promote peace. Partnering for Peace and RI have a Memorandum of Understanding on conducting joint projects worldwide. |
