Nancy gave a great presentation on training Indigenous Midwives and Birth Attendants in rural Guatemala. The problems were many: poor infrastructure, lack of equipment, attendees who could not read, and the prevalence of local languages as opposed to Spanish. But the hands-on training was detailed and realistic. The hope is – by teaching teachers – to have them go back to their villagers, train more people, and drive down the high rates of infant and maternal mortality related to childbirth. Wonderful project. And we congratulate Jeannine on her plastic newborn!
