These are the water bottles that were donated by Madison Church.
Thomas Jefferson Middle School students show the water bottles that were donated by Madison Church.

As part of our Adopt a School partnership, we had our quarterly meeting with the Jefferson Middle School team on January 25th and hope we can share a few things of interest to our members:

Through the support of WT-M Rotary, Jefferson has been able to provide “incentives for students” (rather than detention). Of interest to our members might be:
  • A “School Store” will be opening in February
  • Offerings of prep for HS
  • Water Bottles (see photos) – we have permission from all parents to use images of their children
  • The GaGa Court that we provided funding for will be installed yet this year (waiting on MMSD carpenters to be on site-warmer weather)
  • Through MWT-M support, we provided gift cards at Thanksgiving and Christmas (through Lussier) that were distributed to Jefferson families
Additionally:
  • Jefferson is the recipient of funds from The Esser Program, par of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which provides funds to help school districts respond to changes in student needs due to COVID-19.
  • The school will be constructing new playground equipment by repurposing some of their outside space (to be completed by summer [hopefully])
  • Through the Teacher Support Network, every school has been allocated funding through the Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools.  Jefferson was awarded $2,490, which can be used for:
  • School supplies
  • Art supplies
  • Snacks
  • Sporting Equipment and
  • Winter outerwear
Madison Metropolitan School District will be opening the schools to outside volunteers as soon as feasible.  Jefferson is looking for volunteers to:
  • Provide 1:1 reading tutors
  • After School Program volunteers
Finally, one of the other partners with Jefferson, Madison Church, is hosting a BLOOD DRIVE on Monday, January 31, from 1-6 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1123 Vilas Avenue.  Walk-ins are welcome.

On behalf of our Adopt a School team of Roxanne, Deb, Denny, and myself, thank you for considering sharing this information with our members.
