WWMV-LP 95.5FM is the new low-power FM radio station operating from the Lussier Community Education Center at 55 S. Gammon Road, next to Thomas Jefferson Middle School. The Rotary Club of Madison West Towne–Middleton has lent support to Lussier for about eleven years, starting when they were known as the Wexford Ridge Neighborhood Center, operating out of an apartment building off of Tree Lane, across from where they are located now. During the current Rotary year we requested and received a District 6250 Matching Grant for $1,000, so in total $2,000 was donated to Lussier for certain operating costs of the new station. $1,000 was for a Remote Broadcasting Kit to allow broadcasting from remote sites. The other $1,000 was for creating and printing Publicity Materials, to make the surrounding communities aware of the station and its broadcasting schedule and reach. The Rotary Club, as a project through the Avenue of Community Service, would like to be more involved with the radio station. To do that we have the opportunity to provide prerecorded programs of 15-to30 minutes for airing at selected times. To accomplish this, we will NEED members to suggest ideas for programs and EVEN PARTICIPATE in creating the programs. Some of the programs we have on Friday could be recreated as radio programs. The radio station manager will provide an orientation session, which will be both a learning session on radio protocol and a question-and-answer session. In addition, there will be a training session as more of a “hands-on” learning nature. The station will be able to provide us with digital recording equipment, etc. to help in creating the programs. So, for those members who would like to be become directly involved, and/or have some suggestions for the type of programs/speakers we could engage to do the recorded programs, please contact John Olsen, Leo Edelstein, or John Gerold, and we will take it from there. We have always been a Rotary Club that wanted to be involved directly in projects and not just write checks, so this is one way to do that. | |
