Seven Madison West Middleton Rotary members (John Olsen, Kevin & Linda Hayden, John Gerold, Kathy Roberg, Greg Armstrong, Rod Nilles, and Kevin Moran) joined other “Friends of the Prairie” at Holy Wisdom Monastery on Wednesday morning, August 31, 2022, to collect seeds from their prairie areas.

We worked under the direction of Amy Alstad, Director of Land Management & Environmental Education. The weather was great and a good time was had by all. If you have any interest in helping out collecting seeds, they will be doing it on the following dates: Sept. 14th, Sept. 16th, Sept. 21st, and Oct. 12th, starting at 9 am. An RSVP is appreciated but not required for anyone planning to attend. Holy Wisdom is located at 4200 County Road M, Middleton. Turn into the driveway and take the right fork in the driveway to the top of the hill parking lot. The volunteers gather at the kiosk just beyond the driveway at the top of the hill.

Amy’s number is 608-836-1631, X131 and her email is aalstad@holywisdommonastery.org

Recommended wear for working in the prairie are sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. Participants could also bring their own work gloves (any leather or gardening type gloves will work) and a water bottle, although she will have water and spare gloves available. She will also provide small pruning shears and collection bags for the seeds.
