We heard the story of a wonderful personal adventure, getting to the top of 19,341-foot Mt. Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania near the border with Kenya. With a group of eight and a large support staff, Scott spent seven days/six nights on the way up and two days and one night on the way down. The trek means moving from tropical rain forest at the base to wind-swept rock at the summit. It’s technically not a ‘climb’ since they didn’t have to use ropes, but it’s a grueling trek. It includes passing glaciers on the way up. Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest spot in Africa and the tallest standalone mountain in the world. It was first climbed in 1889.

Scott told us of the personal commitment behind the trek. After a long career in banking, he came to feel he hadn’t given enough time to himself and to his family. He worked hard to get in shape and set some climbing goals for himself. He’s done many treks in the last few years.
