I just wanted to check in from the other side of the world! I have been in Hat Yai, Thailand for 2.5 weeks and so far things are going really well. The food here is really yummy, I really love the town I am staying in, and the nature and temples are just stunning. But the highlight so far has definitely been the people. My host family has gone above and beyond to make me feel at home, and their kindness has made me less homesick and more comfortable than I thought I would be. They really enjoy having me try new foods and experiences, and boy have I enjoyed it too!

Beyond just my host family though, pretty much every person I have met so far has been very kind and welcoming. At school this means I already have a great group of friends, and I have also made friends with many adults from the local rotary club.

School is also good. I am taking a light course-load and am also having fun student-teaching some English and piano classes. When I have free periods at school I am studying Thai. It’s definitely not an easy language to learn but I’m making progress. Outside of school I’m either at Thai Kickboxing (I started lessons when I got here!), watching American football with my host dad, or hanging out with either rotary or school friends. I have gotten the Japanese encephalitis shot I needed to get here, and have a new SIM card.
Below I attached some photos from the last 2.5 weeks. I just wanted to give a big thank you again to you 3 and the entire Madison West Middleton club for all of your support. I’m having an amazing experience so far and I know that it wouldn’t have been possible with out all of you.

Kathy-just let me know when, and I would be happy to FaceTime all of you at a club meeting. Until then, I’ll be in touch over email.

Sincerely, Alex
