Another virtual meeting via Zoom this week. Looks like this will be the case for many weeks to come as we all deal with staying safe in light of COVID 19. See email from either Steve Aune or Dawn Frank with details of Zoom sign-in.
Patrick Ready will discuss how to attract wild birds to your own backyard all year round.
President Dawn Frank sent out an email to Club membership. I reprint it here.
The Club Board has approved the following proposal to be presented to the membership.
In an effort during the pandemic to support local business and help some people in need, we are asking members, on a voluntary basis, to be billed for their weekly lunches while we are meeting remotely. We would pay TnT Catering, which in turn would use the money to prepare and serve lunches to recipients who are in need. TnT would keep their normal profit and use the rest to prepare as many meals as funds would allow. We have not yet identified the entity that we would donate to, because we want to see if we would have enough participation to make this work. Rest assured it would be a worthy group in Middleton, possibly first responders. We would print flyers indicating that the Madison West Towne Middleton Rotary club is providing this service, which will give us some local recognition. We would continue this until we are able to gather again in person.
If you are willing to participate, please let Kevin Moran know via email (Kevin.moran45@gmail.com). Thank you for your consideration.
The Habitat workday, which is normally done in the springtime, has been rescheduled for August 1. Of course, this depends on having some or all of the Covid-19 restrictions lifted. We will keep you informed and be requesting volunteers for this boots-on-the-ground event. If you have any questions, please contact Todd Wiegand, twiegs2@gmail.com or Rod Nilles, rcnilles@chorus.net
For years, led on by the powerful calves of Jerry McAdow, several riders have been bicycling together on Saturday mornings for exercise, for companionship, and for the sense of adventure. We’ve asked Club members to support our efforts by pledging dollars to the Rotary Foundation. It’s an important Club fundraiser. In the past, we’ve talked about cents per mile, but this year we’re going to simplify things by asking for pledges in the amount of $50, $100, or $250. Because several of our other fundraisers may be in some jeopardy because of the coronavirus, this is your chance to give a boost to the Foundation’s coffers. We’re gonna ride no matter what!
Contact person for this event is Jack Ferreri (jack46ferreri@gmail.com). Please take a look into your wallets and see what you can contribute to help support this event and our Club in general.
Riders generally include from left: Jack Ferreri, Jerry McAdow, John Olson, Peter Hoff, Mary Ruth Marks, Paul Patenaude, and Leo Edelstein (not present). We’d love to have more members join us, even occasionally. If you want to be included on our Team emails, send me an email. We hope to lay out routes and timing each week in advance of the Saturday ride date. Jerry and John are planning routes right now. You don’t have to be at a Tour de France level – some rides are simple, some more challenging. We wait for people who fall behind. We’ll provide regular updates on how we’re doing in the Bulletin.
Please let me hear from you on pledges. We’ll send invoices out for your pledge at the end of the bicycling season, probably November. Help make this fundraiser a successful boost to the Foundation in this challenging time.
Organizers for the Middleton Good Neighbor Fest are planning to hold this year’s event August 28-30, 2020. Of course, things could change, but we are planning to host the bingo concession again this year. Last year was our first year back in quite a while. We raised over $2,000 and had a blast in the process. This year we will have a single perimeter fence, so attendees will be able to quaff their favorite beverage while playing bingo. We believe this will up the ante for our club!
Please mark your calendars to join us for fun and profit at the 2020 Middleton Good Neighbor
District Gov, Bill Pritchard will be visiting our club on July 24th either in person or virtually if we are still there. DG visits can be very inspirational as they share the dream with us.
We traveled to Guatemala in October 2019, providing education for midwives, doctors, and nurses. As you may remember, we were unable to give the equipment to the participants due to delays in funding from Rotary International. We had planned to return in May to do provide training and equipment, but this trip is now delayed until October 10-24, 2020. This trip will complete the global grant project. We are looking for health care providers to be part of our teaching team in October. We have 2 training days in Madison on Sept 26-27 at Meriter Hospital in order to help prepare the team. If you know of anyone who may be interested in being a part of our team or have questions, please email me at safebirthguatemala@gmail.com.
