MADISON- In the early hours of December 24, 2017, Jim passed away with family at his side at Agrace HospiceCare. He was the adored only child of Benjamin Langdon and Laura (Solem) Langdon, born on May 9, 1928. The family lived in Milwaukee through most of Jim's childhood but returned to Madison (which was his father's hometown) after World War II. Jim graduated in 1947 from Madison Central High School. He attended UW-Madison, majoring in Soils and rowing on the Men's Crew. He earned three varsity letters in 1949, 1950, and 1951. Rowing was a highlight of his university years and his children heard many stories about various trips and races. Another highlight of his university years, of course was meeting the love of his life, Joan Weavers. Jim and Joan celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past summer with a trip to their beloved Door County.
Jim was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church choir for fifty years. He had a beautiful tenor voice and a great appreciation for music. At Agrace, he was soothed by Handel's Messiah along with other religious selections. Jim was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, a member of Madison Torske Klubben (Norwegian Club), and the Capitol City Corvair Club. He was known for repairing anything from an engine to a pocket watch. Jim was very much a "people person" and the family always joked that he could walk into a room of strangers and leave with a handful of new best friends. The family wishes to thank all of his friends for their love and support throughout his illness, especially the Panera Bread/Lane's Bakery coffee friends, his car buddies, church friends, caring neighbors, and his Tuesday pal, Guy.
Jim leaves behind his wife Joan; sons William (Patti) Langdon, Robert (Lisa) Langdon; daughter Mary (Greg) Wescott; Grandchildren, Erin Wescott, Michael Wescott (Kristy), John Langdon, Sarah Langdon, Sonja Langdon, and Nora Langdon; great-grandsons, Logan Wescott and Brycen Wescott.
The family wishes to thank the many wonderful angels at Agrace HospiceCare, both the home care team and the resident staff. You were so loving and supportive to Jim and our family. We also thank Pastor John Swanson for his meaningful visits. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Agrace Foundation, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711 or Bethel Lutheran Church Senior Choir would be greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave, Madison, on Tuesday, January 16, 2017, at 11:00 am with Pastor John Swanson officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A private family burial will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton is presenting each active Member with a Rotary Coin. One side of the coin has the Club name around the outside of the Rotary Wheel and the other side has the Four Way Test of the things we think, say, or do. In the name tag box behind your name will be an envelope with your name on it with the Rotary Coin. You will find these this week at the registration desk, and the following Friday, and hopefully, each member will pick up their individual coin at that time.

Happy New Year!
The time to ensure your club is qualified to apply for a Rotary Foundation District or Global Grant in the upcoming Rotary year is upon us. As you may already know, there are a few prerequisites that must be completed. The first requirement is that a minimum of one member (more is always preferable) from your club must attend a district specific grant management seminar (GMS). Attendance at either the January 20, March 15 or May 4 will be sufficient but having attended a previous year’s GMS will not.
Please identify your club’s representative(s) now and have them sign up today at our district’s website.
The second requirement is your club must have achieved a minimum of $100/member contributions to our Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund. Contributions to Polio Plus, the Endowment Fund or approved global grants do not count towards your $100/member average. If you would like assistance in determining where your club’s current giving stands, please ask.
The third requirement is your club’s President Elect must attend PETS (President Elect Training Seminar) which will be held in Itasca, IL from March 2 – 4, 2018. Registration is available now at the Midwest PETS website.
If you have any questions regarding Rotary Foundation Grants please do not hesitate to ask. David Warren, District Rotary Foundation Chair dave@davesace.com

One of our service projects for this Rotary year is a winter clothing drive for Jefferson Middle School. Since the weather has turned cold, it is time to hunt through your home or go to the store and purchase hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves suitable for middle school boys and girls.
Sizes:
Ladies sizes small, medium and large
Men's sizes small, medium, large and extra large
Please bring your items to the rotary meetings over the next few weeks.
Saturday, February 10, 2018, Chula Vista Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI
The morning is the annual DTTS – District Team Training Seminar – where District committees come together to report on what they are doing now and what their plans are for the future. You will hear reports from all District committees like Youth Programs, Visioning, Foundation, Membership and Friendship Exchange just to name a few. This will help update the Board and generate awareness on all that is happening in our District and the resources available to help. With so much change in Rotary and the District in the last few years, this is certain to be time well spent.
Our own John Gerold (Bingo Czar) leads a group of volunteers to run bingo games at Oakwood Village – University Woods at 6 – 7:30 pm the third Thursday every month from October through May.
Sign up on the pass around sheet during Friday meetings.
John will send a reminder and logistical information to each volunteer ahead of each session. This activity also qualifies for a meeting make-up, if one is needed.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
If you are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc... You must have an annual background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
