Speaker Recap - Feb. 12, 2016 Meeting

Speaker Recap
Topic: State of Healthcare Today
Damon Boatwright
Regional President/CEO of Hospital Operations
St. Mary's Hospital & SSM Health Care of Wisconsin

Healthcare costs continue to rise. 6.1% of U.S. GDP in 2008; projected to be 8.1% in 2018. Fragmentation of care seems to be a driver of these increases ... it's a uniquely American phenomenon. Traditional healthcare model is inefficient. An emerging Value Model, focused on Health Plans, shows promise for streamlining healthcare and providing more rational, sustainable delivery.

Some 40% of healthcare costs are 'personal choices': smoking, diet, alcohol, obesity, and inactivity. Damon encouraged us to look at our lifestyle in terms of our health. And we should give some thought to having a healthcare advocate to help us make wise decisions ... rather than just going with the first option offered.

Golf Outing Silent Auction Volunteers Needed

The silent auction committee will be meeting soon and is looking for more members to help in soliciting for donations as well as preparing the donations for the day of the event. The committee currently consists of Ruth Domack, Leo Edelstein, Jeannine Desautels and Lorelle Micklitz. Please let any of these members know if you will be joining us.

Basketball Slam

Buy a ticket and your four teams are listed under the scratch off portion of the ticket.

The total scores of those four teams determine the winners and losers. The folks with the eight highest scores and the four lowest scores are paid cash.

You sell one discount ticket for $10.

You sell two discount tickets for $20 and the buyer gets a third ticket FREE  (emailed to them after they register the first two tickets) on Green Bee Fundraising website.

The discount portion of the ticket takes you to a website where you can get discounted offers in various businesses. That is what people are paying for; the Basketball Slam is an added bonus.

If you have tickets you must turn in the stub and the money by March 17, 2016 or return the tickets to Deb, Mick or Kevin.  You will be responsible for any missing tickets.

If you are going away during mid-March, TURN IN YOUR TICKETS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!

If you want to buyout of the fundraiser, the board suggests a $75.00 donation to the foundation.

News from Rotary International
Interact clubs are making a positive difference in schools and communities around the world. Leaders of sponsor Rotary clubs and districts should make sure their Interact clubs get the recognition they deserve by verifying that they qualify for a Presidential Citation. First, ensure that the Interact club status is active in Rotary's database by checking the Listing of Club-Sponsored Organizations report in Rotary Club Central. If a sponsored club is not listed, submit the Interact Club Certification Form by 1 March. Then, verify by 15 April that your Interact clubs have qualified for the...

Rotary members, their families and friends can support Rotary’s work by bidding on antiques, artwork, jewelry, and collectibles through eBay Live Auctions events. Each month, Rotary will promote on its social media outlets a set of upcoming Live Auctions events, and eBay, the world’s largest auction website, will donate a portion of all sale proceeds from those events to Rotary. Live Auctions events enable buyers to participate in auctions across the United States -- held at such auction houses as Sotheby’s, Swann, and Freeman’s -- without leaving home. Under this proceeds-sharing...

A new email purporting to be from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith is targeting Rotary members. The email falsely claims that members can become End Polio Now ambassadors if they email club information to a Gmail address within 48 hours. The fraudulent email has the subject line “BECOME AN END POLIO AMBASSADOR” and is sent from a fake email address. This is a scam. Rotary staff is working to resolve the issue. Avoid being the victim of scams by deleting any email that appears suspicious.
