This Week’s Speaker: Stories & Books of Our Lives.

We’ve had to move the scheduled Club Assembly from this week to November. Instead, we’re going to try something different to fill in the slot. Come to the meeting with a story or two (or a book) from your life that members will find entertaining, enlightening, or downright out of character from the YOU that they know. We’ve all led interesting lives. Share a story at this meeting.

Last Week’s Speaker: Another Hope Children’s Ministries (AHCM)-Uganda Orphanage

Daniel Kasozi & Ruth Nambowa Bulyaba operate an orphanage and other child-related activities near Kinshasa in Uganda. The Orphan Train conductor for their children's home is the Rotary Club of Oregon (WI). The orphanage houses 45 kids, most of them abused or abandoned. They range in age from infants into the early 20s. They serve a total of 232 children in core program areas: Education; Health, Water, Sanitation and Shelter; Economic Strengthening; Psychological Support and Basic Care; Child Protection and Legal Support; and Food and Nutrition Security. The orphanage pushed education, especially vocational training, so these kids can support themselves for the rest of their lives. The kids are involved in farming to create they food for AHCM. They’re also involved in creating and selling crafts, providing wells and water tanks and in helping older girls deal with hygiene needs. Their website is anotherhope.org, and they’re always grateful for contributions. AHCM is committed to meeting the spiritual and physical needs of vulnerable children in Uganda, through strategic partnership, ministering and undertaking specialized and sustainable child focused initiatives.

Consider Joining Your Rotary Club’s Board

We’ll be needing some Board members come July 1 of next year. We need to get them announced and confirmed before the end of this year. We’re looking for members in International Service, Community Service, Club Service, and Vocational Service, as well as a President-Elect. Extend your service to your Club and learn the details of how we do all the good things we do. Talk to President Matt Loch or President-Elect Dawn Frank for details. Rotary: Making a Difference.

Oakwood Bingo

We started the monthly bingo sessions at Oakwood on Thursday, October 18th.  Monthly sessions will run through May, 2019. The Sign-up sheet was passed at the last two Rotary meetings and we have a full complement of volunteers for October and November. Thanks to all who signed up. I will let you know the details on the Monday before the Thursday event. As always, this counts as a make-up and the hours add to our Club’s total volunteering hours. John A. Gerold is the Bingo Co-coordinator along with Rod Nilles.

Membership

We’re about to be joined by our first Corporate member … Jefferson Middle School. Four teachers and staff from the school will share a membership in our Club. This has been a topic of interest for the Board for years, and we’re glad it’s finally come to pass.
