The Habitat For Humanity Work Day is tomorrow, 8:15 am - 3:30 pm, Saturday, April 29th. You should have received an email from Work Day Leader Tod Wiegand on how to sign up.
Help set up and facilitate the party at Jefferson after the Mad City Challenge (MCC). On June 1 and/or 2 in the afternoon.
PACKET SET UP
Help with preparing leader packets, measuring and cutting rope and other duties to make sure group leaders have everything they need. Prior to June 1.
MAD CITY CHALLENGE GROUP LEADER Each leader is assigned a group of 5-6 kids. Kids are given a list of tasks to complete around Madison (primarily around UW Campus/State St.).
Group Leader's Responsibilities:
Make sure the kids stay in a safe environment. They are out in the city so bus stops and crossing streets, etc. The kids are required to be holding onto a 10' rope from the time they leave Jefferson until the time they return. They may let go while on the city bus and bathroom stops. If at any time a student lets go of the rope - the group leader cuts off 6" of rope.
Check off tasks as the kids complete them. Leaders are not allowed to help their groups complete the tasks. No giving directions, hints, etc. - kids are on their own.
First Group goes Thursday, June 1st, second group Friday, June 2nd. Day of event 7:30am-2:30pm.
If possible we meet the day before the group goes to go over any questions. Typically after school 2:40 pm for maybe a half hour.
Just to be clear, a group leader will walk with the students for the entire day which can add up to about 5 miles. If keeping up with middle schoolers is a challenge, the party and/or preparing material might be a better fit.
You can make a difference in our community - participate in this and other great volunteer opportunities at Jefferson Middle School. Just click in the link below to download the volunteer application form and take the first step.
Michelle Reddington, BRAVA publisher, spoke to us about the history of the magazine and its revitalization. BRAVA grew out of ANEW Magazine, started in 2002 by Kristin Erickson. That BRAVA shut down in 2009, to be resurrected a few months later by Michelle and four others. Over time the magazine grew a fresh identity, with new departments, greater diversity, more controversial topics, and a dynamic outreach to the women of Madison. BRAVA made Thrive its signature message. BRAVA forged an emotional connection with its readers through a series of engaging events, which have proven enormously popular – The Madison Women’s Expo, Madison Kids Expo, Thrive workshops (career and otherwise), and BRAVA Night Out.

Six Rotarians from District 6250 participated in a Rotary Friendship Exchange in February and were hosted by Rotarians in District 3060 in Gujarat, India. There will be 5 Indian couples visiting our area from that District, Sunday, June 4, through Wednesday, June 7.
You will have an opportunity to build goodwill, be an ambassador for international friendship and have a crash course in the Indian culture without leaving Dane County in exchange for your efforts!! This is the chance to connect internationally that you will not regret!

The lunch venue has changed for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award students to Lake Lucerne Camp near Neshkoro which is a little farther away but has a great kitchen facility available to us. We have a budget of $600 to work with so I believe we can duplicate the spaghetti, salad and dessert we provided last year.
We will need four Nescos, please give your Nesco permission to particapate.
One or two more volunteers are needed to help out with transporting the food and serving it on Saturday, May 20. A list will be passed around at the meeting so you and/or your Nesco can sign up, or you can contact Mary Van Hout • maryevanhout@gmail.com • 608-575-7566

It is time again to think about whether you want money from our Rotary Club, District 6250 or the Rotary International Foundation. If you are interested in funding a project, please contact me so we can discuss how to write the best grant and to decide which grant application is appropriate. An abbreviated description is as follows:
Money from Our Club--for grants of $5,000 or less. The deadline is May 1st. You must submit a completed application to our Club by that date.
District 6250 Grants--for grants between $5,001 and $30,000. The deadline is May 25th. The grant must be sustainable and fall within 6 focus areas. This requires member involvement. A request for money only will be denied. You must submit he grant application to the District.
Rotary Foundation Grants--for grants of $30,000 or more. There is no deadline for filing. The grant must be sustainable and fall within 6 focus areas. This also requires member involvement.. A request for money only will be denied. It also requires an international partner Rotary Club. The District will assign a mentor to help you write the grant. You must submit the grant to the Rotary Foundation.
Please do not wait until May to begin the project. If changes are needed, they must be made so that you can meet the deadline.
The Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton is sponsoring a high-school aged girl from Poland. She will arrive here in August, 2017 and is very excited to experience American culture.
Her host families need to live in or near the Memorial School District as she will be attending Memorial High School. If you or someone you know may be interested in hosting her for 3-4 months, please contact us.
I am looking for drivers for Best (Rotary Youth Exchange student) to get him to and from school/Rotary meetings. If you can help out with any of these dates please let me know ASAP. I now have to inform the school as to when he will be leaving for the meetings and it is helpful to let them know who will be picking him up and bringing him back. Thanks so much!
If you are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc... You must have an annual background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
