Recap of Feb. 26 Meeting
Our Rotary Club presented a check for $10,475 to Jefferson Middle School to purchase thirty Chromebook laptops for their self-motivated students. Our check included a $5,000 match from District 6250.

We heard from Principal Issac Kirkwood, Community Partnerships Director Mary Bartzen and a pair of enthusiastic and hilarious teachers. They all expressed their appreciation and told us how the Chromebooks will be used in differentiated instruction to help students learn at their own best pace. They form the backbone of an electronic classroom that has already been shown to have a great impact on grades. A big boost to tech-savvy instruction.

Your Feedback Needed
Below is information that was handed out to all members who were in attendance at the February 26th club meeting. The Board of Directors wants to hear from our members. You can also download this information here.

Due to a full agenda at the February 26th club meeting, most members did not have an opportunity to provide the feedback that the Board is looking for.

The recent Members Survey revealed that 88% of the respondents want to have at least one "Hands On" service project every month of the year (aka 12 x 12). The Board is looking for ideas for "Hands On" projects where club members can come together (with family members, friends, prospective new club members, etc.) to serve the community.

The recent Member Survey also revealed that 95% of the respondents want to have more club socials. The Board is looking for suggestions on the types of club socials we should have as well as possible locations.

Please take the time to provide the Board with your feedback. Please send your responses to President Derek Moehring at derek.moehring@capitolbank.com. If you have any questions or would like to discuss these topics, please call (836-4304) or email Derek.

Please know that YOUR FEEDBACK is valued by the Board.

The BIG Check
A special thanks to Mary Beth Growney Selene and Ryan Signs for their generous donation of the “Big Check” which can be seen in the photo below.  This check is reusable and the Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Foundation plans to put it to good use going forward.

The below was sent this week to thousands of supporters of The Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools.

Jefferson Middle School Receives $10,475 to purchase Chromebooks!

AVID Coordinator Cindy La Point, Learning Coordinator Julie Riebau and Principal Issac Kirkwood accept the check from Rotary Club

Recently, the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton initiated its Adopt-a-School relationship with Jefferson Middle by awarding $10,475 to the school for the purchase of 30 Chromebooks, a charging cart, and a classroom set of headphones. The Chromebooks will enable students to utilize Google Classroom for all curricular areas as well as advancing opportunities for career exploration. While the Chromebooks will be used primarily by students enrolled in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) classes, they will be available to the entire school.

The Rotary Club completed an extensive grant process in order to secure the funds used to purchase the Chromebooks. Rotary members are looking forward to taking advantage of volunteer opportunities at Jefferson and developing relationships with the students and staff. Next up will be decorating for the eighth grade dance!

The silent auction committee will be meeting soon and is looking for more members to help in soliciting for donations as well as preparing the donations for the day of the event. Basketball Slam

Buy a ticket and your four teams are listed under the scratch off portion of the ticket.

The total scores of those four teams determine the winners and losers. The folks with the eight highest scores and the four lowest scores are paid cash.

You sell one discount ticket for $10.

You sell two discount tickets for $20 and the buyer gets a third ticket FREE  (emailed to them after they register the first two tickets) on Green Bee Fundraising website.

The discount portion of the ticket takes you to a website where you can get discounted offers in various businesses. That is what people are paying for; the Basketball Slam is an added bonus.

If you have tickets you must turn in the stub and the money by March 17, 2016 or return the tickets to Deb, Mick or Kevin.  You will be responsible for any missing tickets.

If you are going away during mid-March, TURN IN YOUR TICKETS BEFORE YOU LEAVE!

If you want to buyout of the fundraiser, the board suggests a $75.00 donation to the foundation.

News from Rotary International
Interact clubs are making a positive difference in schools and communities around the world. Leaders of sponsor Rotary clubs and districts should make sure their Interact clubs get the recognition they deserve by verifying that they qualify for a Presidential Citation. First, ensure that the Interact club status is active in Rotary's database by checking the Listing of Club-Sponsored Organizations report in Rotary Club Central. If a sponsored club is not listed, submit the Interact Club Certification Form by 1 March. Then, verify by 15 April that your Interact clubs have qualified for the...

Rotary members, their families and friends can support Rotary’s work by bidding on antiques, artwork, jewelry, and collectibles through eBay Live Auctions events. Each month, Rotary will promote on its social media outlets a set of upcoming Live Auctions events, and eBay, the world’s largest auction website, will donate a portion of all sale proceeds from those events to Rotary. Live Auctions events enable buyers to participate in auctions across the United States -- held at such auction houses as Sotheby’s, Swann, and Freeman’s -- without leaving home. Under this proceeds-sharing...

A new email purporting to be from Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Ray Klinginsmith is targeting Rotary members. The email falsely claims that members can become End Polio Now ambassadors if they email club information to a Gmail address within 48 hours. The fraudulent email has the subject line “BECOME AN END POLIO AMBASSADOR” and is sent from a fake email address. This is a scam. Rotary staff is working to resolve the issue. Avoid being the victim of scams by deleting any email that appears suspicious.
