Are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc...
If YES, you need to have an annual background check completed. CLICK HERE for more details about how to get your background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.

Art Davenport of Paranormal Encounters WI entertained us with tales of ghosts and spirits appearing around the state and beyond. From haunted buildings like the Old Baraboo Inn or the Sedamsville Rectory in Iowa to ghostly passageways on the site of the old Mendota Hospital on the north side of Lake Mendota, his equipment detected entities outside the realm of normal life. Spirits spoke, moved objects, and poked members of the investigative team. An experienced storyteller, he used a 10-minute video to set the mood, then told of some of his adventures at a range of paranormal hot spots. The group also sponsors Haunted Trolley Tours and VIP Ghost Hunts.
Running Out of Time for McAdow's Miles for Rotary Team!
Time's running out to support the McAdow's Miles for Rotary Team!
Team is named for Jerry McAdow. In 2011 Jerry, as an individual, started soliciting pledges as McAdow‘s Miles for Rotary a fund raising effort for the Madison West Towne-Middleton Foundation in 2011. He rides 3,500 miles or so each year.
Starting in 2016 Jerry and a group of fellow enthusiasts are now McAdow Miles for Rotary Team! Paul Patenaude encouraged the fund raiser to continue as a team effort. He is a recreational rider as is Peter Hoff who rides with Paul. Leo Edelstein rides with the team on the Saturday group rides. John Olson also rides with the group rides. Svein Morner rides to work and to Rotary. Tony Burns participates in triathlons when he’s not working. Susan Prest, Alan Sherwood and Friend ride in the Waupaca Area.
This is our 6th year doing this voluntary fundraiser within our club. In past years we have rasied between $5,000 - $6,000 each year to support Foundation projects.
The Board approved two new members at the October Board meeting. Please welcome Patrick Rees and Michael Maas.

Michael Maass is returning to to the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton and is transfering from the Sun Prairie Rotary Club. Michael is a Senior Manager at Wegner CPA's.
Their induction will be at the Friday, November 11, meeting
The By-Laws for the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, state the following:
Section 1 – Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of this club shall be the first regular meeting in December of each year, at which time the election of directors to serve for the ensuing two years shall take place.
Our Club’s first meeting in December will be December 2nd; however, District Governor, Dean McHugh, will be visiting our Club that day.
Due to other scheduling conflicts, the Board of Directors has chosen to move the Annual Meeting to Friday December 16th at which time the election of the directors will take place. The Board of Directors wants each club member to be aware of this change in the date of the Annual Meeting.
As bingo has become a go-to game for many seniors, researchers have also discovered that playing this game can have health benefits for the elderly. It can be an excellent way for them to promote their mental, emotional, and physical health.
Our own John Gerold (Bingo Czar) leads a group of volunteers to run bingo games at Oakwood Village – University Woods at 6 – 7:30 pm the third Thursday every month from November through May.
Signup at Friday meetings.
John will send a reminder and logistical information to each volunteer ahead of each session. This activity also qualifies for a meeting make-up, if one is needed.
One of Paul Harris' initial goals was to create a business network of like-minded individuals with high integrity. Over the years our club's focus has shifted to service above self perhaps at the expense of making valuable, professional business connections, especially for newer members. Enter Rotary Works--a program that will appeal to those who want to learn more about the business side of their fellow members and share their own business interests.
Mary Beth Growney-Selene saw this program in action in Cleveland, brought it to the board for consideration and we heartily endorsed it. Attached is a flyer that explains the program. Our first meeting will be held at 11:15 a.m. before our meeting on Friday, November 11. Lynn Goldsmith agreed to be a co-chair and we are looking for another person to join her on this new adventure. This is a great opportunity to develop productive business relationships and get a taste of leadership.

While the picturesque Valley of 1,000 Hills outside Durban, South Africa, offers stunning scenery to visitors, job prospects for the Zulu people who live on tribal land there are bleak. Three years ago, the nearby Rotary Club of Hillcrest addressed the unemployment rate by partnering with Embocraft, a skills training group serving the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The group offers classes in sewing, computers, textiles, welding, and woodwork, with the goal of alleviating poverty.
Hillcrest Rotarians have co-sponsored four sewing courses, each lasting 15 sessions, for Zulu seniors or others who...
