What was your most embarrassing moment as a realtor?

When asked about her most embarrassing moment as a realtor she remembered the key incident.

Once showing a house to a client she extracted the key from the key box hanging on the doorknob. She confidently jabbed the key into the lock only to have it break off as she turned it. Turning to the client she said "Gee they didn't teach what to do about this in realtor school."

So what happened?? "We went round the house and in the unlocked backdoor. Fortunately I only show country homes."

What was your worse moment as a Rotarian?

Mary Feldt was quick to remember being asked to be Sergeant at Arms by then President Otto Cordero. She was deathly afraid of public speaking but her respect of and encouragement from Otto won the day. The experience helped her overcome that fear and became one of her many, many Rotary high points. Among these are the Calgary International Convention, her Paul Harris award, Guatemala trips and bringing so many new members into our club.

What was your proudest achievement in school?

Bill Mowbray related that after kicking over the props in an elementary school drama production I pulled. myself together in high school. I was a trumpeter in the school's brass chorus. After playing the same piece for 3 years at the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo & Ensemble contest, we finally won first place with a perfect score.

What was your most memorable moment?

Answer: "I loved theater and getting to play one of the leads in Look Homeward Angel was the high point.”

Background info: There were two female leads in the play, Eliza the old mother nag of the protagonist or his beautiful young love interest, Laura. You know which one Mary played!!

Basketball Slam

This years basketball slam tickets have just arrived. We will be selling them for $10 each for the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Each ticket has 4 teams. The total score of those teams throughout the tourney determines the winner.

There will be 12 prizes: highest score to 10th highest and 2 lowest scores. So even if your teams bow out the first day, you still could be a winner.

We will be making $7 per ticket sold! We have 600 tickets and need to SELL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! We CAN order more if needed.

This year if you have tickets that are unsold, it will cost us $3.00 each! We do not want to pay $3 each, so sell, sell, sell. ALL STUBS must be turned back in!

Tickets will be at the meeting tomorrow. TURN IN BY AND NO LATER THAN MARCH 3! Please turn in tickets as they are sold.

Brian J. Brown Approved for Membership

Brian Brown was approved by the board at the January board meeting as a new member of our club. He will be inducted into the Club in approximately 2 weeks.

He originally from Glendale, Wisconsin a suburb north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was granted a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin where he majored in economics and finance.

Brian has been employed in the financial services industry since 1988 and has been with Financial Design Group since 2002.

"I work with businesses and individuals to help them achieve their financial goals and objectives.

I help them have a more effective and more efficient financial plan.

I have resources that allow me to work in all areas of the financial plan for the client."

His interests are sports, business networking, and helping and communicating with people.

FEBRUARY 12x12 EVENT • Volunteer at the Frozen Assets Festival and the Frozen Assets Fundraiser

It's that time of year! The lakes are freezing and Clean Lakes Alliance is looking for volunteers to help at their biggest event of 2017, Frozen Assets Festival and Fundraiser! Proceeds will help Clean Lakes Alliance fund initiatives to protect and improve the quality of our lakes.

In 2016, 104 volunteers contributed over 460 hours of time to this event. Nearly 6,000 community members participated in the event and around $151,000 were netted for our lakes. They are incorporating more activities and events, including a fat tire race, snowshoe race, and ice-fishing derby into the Festival event in 2017. Without the help of volunteers such as you, this event would not be possible.

Previous Frozen Assets volunteers say the event offers a great experience and a fun way to volunteer. They are looking for numerous volunteers, MORE than ever before (350 volunteer time slots available), to help during the day and/or evening. Volunteers will be invited to attend a short training session prior to the event to go over duties. Food, non-alcoholic beverages, and identifying clothing will be provided during the event.

Tom Porter - Lake Louie Brewing

He bought 20 acres near Arena, WI, from his Uncle Louie.
He decided to change careers from manufacturing engineer to brewer.
He moved into a metal shed and a great beer was launched in 1999 by Tom Porter.
In year one Lake Louie Brewery produced 106 barrels..."now we brew that much by Thursday every week."
Tom drove the beer delivery truck for six years and says "it's the toughest job."
Today, he has a special party just for the Lake Louie delivery men and women, to thank them.

In 2012, Lake Louie beers became available Wisconsin-wide, through an agreement with the Miller Coors distributor.
"I sneak my beer on the back of Miller Coors trucks."
His biggest seller, with 40% of sales, is Warped Speed Scotch Ale ... and Rotarians enjoyed their samples.
New Lake Louie flavors coming out this year: "Chicken Dance" (a bold IPA with three ryes) and a French beer called "Midnight on the Bay." Tom plans to introduce 16 new flavors in 2017, down from 19 last year.

Main reason for Lake Louie's success? Tom insists "it's the water. Fresh water is the key."

Judge Interviews, Speeches, and Time Speeches

Pardon my persistence. Those of you that served last year as Interview Judges, Speech Judges, or Speech Timers at the WIAD State Competition in Wisconsin Dells. Your help would be much appreciated again this year. The date is Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 4:00 - 8:40 PM, at Glacier Canyon Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells, the same location and time as last year.

As of today, I am still seeking 14 interview judges, 6 speech judges, and 8 speech timers.
