There is a video that will give you an idea as to what we will be doing as a volunteer, and we'd appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to view it before you arrive at our book processing center.
We will review the instructions on how to pack the boxes and safety instructions when you arrive.
Here are a few more things that you might like to know before you arrive at the book processing center:
All volunteers will be required to sign a liability release. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
You will be standing on a concrete floor, so dress in comfortable shoes. The facility is clean, but some boxes of books may be dusty.
Wear layers. The temperature can get down to 50 degrees, but is quite comfortable when you are working.
Cold water, hot beverages and snacks will be provided.
Volunteers will be sorting and packing used text books which have been donated by local schools, libraries, and individuals. Any lifting of boxes is done by able-bodied people. The boxes that they fill will then be put on pallets awaiting shipment to schools in developing countries where the books are made available to teachers and administrators at no cost.
The location of the book processing center is 1849 Wright Street in the Madison College complex. The building is shown on the attached map in the upper right and is marked “North Court Storage.”
Look for our signs with "Rotary Books" or “Books for the World.” Please park in the far north side of the parking lot so as not to interfere with student and faculty parking in that lot.
I do ask for a headcount, can I count on you to assist with this project as part of the 12x12...We can have up to 30 Rotary members and family members assisting...Volunteer hours will be Saturday April 22, 2017 from 9:00-11:00am.
Please do email me and let me know if you can make it. Looking forward to making a difference with the Coolest Rotary Club in the World! CONTACT Tony Burns tonyburns@tds.net

The primary goal of Rotary Friendship Exchange is to build greater international understanding and goodwill. In addition, exchange participants can learn how their vocations are practiced in other parts of the world, observe new customs and cultures, and promote an appreciation of cultural diversity worldwide.

We also need volunteers to help drive them to the various venues we want them to see and experience.

The lunch venue has changed for the RYLA students to Lake Lucerne Camp near Neshkoro which is a little farther away but has a great kitchen facility available to us. We have a budget of $600 to work with so I believe we can duplicate the spaghetti, salad and dessert we provided last year.

Pippa Jarvis is the managing director of TLC Orphanage in South Africa. We have assisted them with the costs of educating two of their girls, Khensani and Amy, over the past few years. Last year, we also sent funds for the purchase of some security equipment, including fencing (needed because of attacks on staff and volunteers on their compound and just outside the facility). Attached please find a receipt for the $2500 we budgeted and a thank you letter. The Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton is the Orphan Train conductor for this home.
Good morning Ed!
What a great big blessing to find that money cleared in our account. We have paid it straight to the schools and it has relieved a big headache :-)
Please find the receipt and the Letter of thanks to all at the Rotary foundation.
Thank you for being such a blessing in our lives and especially the lives of our children!
It is time again to think about whether you want money from our Rotary Club, District 6250 or the Rotary International Foundation. If you are interested in funding a project, please contact me so we can discuss how to write the best grant and to decide which grant application is appropriate. An abbreviated description is as follows:
Money from Our Club--for grants of $5,000 or less. The deadline is May 1st. You must submit a completed application to our Club by that date.
District 6250 Grants--for grants between $5,001 and $30,000. The deadline is May 25th. The grant must be sustainable and fall within 6 focus areas. This requires member involvement. A request for money only will be denied. You must submit he grant application to the District.
Rotary Foundation Grants--for grants of $30,000 or more. There is no deadline for filing. The grant must be sustainable and fall within 6 focus areas. This also requires member involvement.. A request for money only will be denied. It also requires an international partner Rotary Club. The District will assign a mentor to help you write the grant. You must submit the grant to the Rotary Foundation.
Please do not wait until May to begin the project. If changes are needed, they must be made so that you can meet the deadline.
The Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton is sponsoring a high-school aged girl from Poland. She will arrive here in August, 2017 and is very excited to experience American culture.
Her host families need to live in or near the Memorial School District as she will be attending Memorial High School. If you or someone you know may be interested in hosting her for 3-4 months, please contact us.
I am looking for drivers for Best (Rotary Youth Exchange student) to get him to and from school/Rotary meetings. If you can help out with any of these dates please let me know ASAP. I now have to inform the school as to when he will be leaving for the meetings and it is helpful to let them know who will be picking him up and bringing him back. Thanks so much!
If you are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc... You must have an annual background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
