After a career including stints as State Representative and Dane County Clerk, Joe Parisi became County Executive in 2011. It was a remarkable climb for a high school dropout who didn’t think he was smart. But he got into a program, earned his GED, High School diploma, and through MATC and UW Madison earned a degree in Sociology.
He’s been motivated to help those with the same limited prospects he once faced. He’s been active in Operation Fresh Start, dealing with troubled kids. He also chaired the Corrections Committee while in the Assembly, taking the time to talk to inmates in the County Jail.
Half the County’s $600 million budget goes to Human Services. He hopes to expand Fresh Start, expand Affordable Housing, and develop a Youth Conservation Corps to maintain County parks and teach social and work skills to troubled youth.
First I want to thank the latest donations to the silent auction:
Cory Recknor and Aprilaire are donating a dehumidifier and the Recknor family is offering a donation. Jim Olmsted is filling a cooler with meat from Knoche's. Golf items are in from Dan Fose and Stu Herro and promised from Steve Aune and Tony Burns. Leo Edelstein has been busy getting tickets to sport events as well as Vitense, Princeton Club and Bucky Books. UW Football tickets from Mick Faulhaber. A weekend getaway to the Dells from Greg Blum. A UW jacket from Dawn Frank. A bottle of Chivas Regal and J Henry Bourbon from Deb Dieter. Golf for 4 plus cart at Lake Wisconsin Country Club from Doug Coerper. Coffee shop certificates (Yola's, Starbucks, Colectivo, etc) Anything UW related (footballs, basketballs, decals, sunglasses, caps, t-shirts) Ten Pin Alley certificates Pet related items like vet clinic certificates, grooming, doggie day care
Do you have a certain skill and can offer a few hours? Something like cooking? handyman?
We still need golf stuff. Do you work for a corporation who could donate golf balls? tees? whatever?
Please bring your items to the Friday meeting. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all you do for Rotary
Box lunches cost $9 for those volunteers who would like to order a box lunch. Box lunches are available around 9:30am. The afternoon buffet offers enough food so any volunteer who works later in the day is welcome to the buffet at no additional cost.
We need volunteers! Please give a few hours of your time on Monday, June 26. Click Here to Sign Up!!
Thank you everyone for your support surrounding the establishment of a club blood drive with the Red Cross, however for a myriad of reasons we are currently thirteen donors short of the minimum required to reserve an event. At this point I would like to ask that anyone who would like to be a donor who has not reached out to me please do so. I would also like to add that anyone who would like to volunteer their friends, family, or co-workers is encouraged to and they will count towards our total. If we don’t reach the minimum by the middle of next week I will work with the Red Cross to support one of their existing drives.
This is our biggest most important fund raiser of the year and we need everyone to participate in some way. Please let me know if you have not yet become involved and what you will be able to do for the club. Here are the options:
1) Participate or find a foursome for golf. (June 26th at Pleasant View Golf Course) Click Here to Register
2) Sponsor a business or generic sign at one of the tee boxes ($300). Contact Kevin Welton kkevinw1420@tds.net
3) Donate an item for the silent auction. Contact Ruth Domack ruthdomack@gmail.com
4) Volunteer the day of the event (8 am to set up silent auction, sell raffle tickets or 3 pm to help with silent auction payments). Click Here to Volunteer

The following is general info from the Sun Flower Days Logistics Meeting. Last year, it was estimated 80,000 people visited the site, thus making it one of the premier summer attractions in the county.
First and most importantly, due to May’s weather, the planting did not go as planned. Thus, Sun Flower Days has been moved to begin Sat. Aug. 12, thru Sunday Aug. 20. We can put these dates in the bulletin and in our screen presentation.
Signups for parking volunteers will be done on-line. This process has not been completed, and we won’t have to collect names etc. at our meetings.
For those who have done this before, there are some changes in procedures for sign-in, wavers, and responsibilities. I see these all as very positive. There must have been 15 supervisor volunteers at the meeting plus a Town of Middleton Officer who gave good guidance to cover the anticipated crowds and traffic problems.
The conservancy will be open from 8:00am until shortly before sun set. Volunteers are to arrive 15 mins early for sign-in and instructions. All these are relatively easy, working in 2 hours shifts except for 10-12:30. There are 6 shift times. ALSO, there will be shade, either natural by trees or portable tents at each parking assignment location There will be 5 locations of them. Water, sun screen, and “treats” will be provided for our volunteers. Our volunteers need to be “animated” in their direction to direct parking. We will also be soliciting memberships to the visitors by passing out PFC brochures as the cars exit the area.
Starting Friday, we can make meeting announcements to begin “seeding” the idea to volunteer. I would expect those who did the highway cleanup would be great candidates for sign-ups.
The last bingo session of the season was held in mid May. We are all done until we begin again in October. Thank you to the 27 volunteers, which included family members of a Rotarian. I would estimate our total volunteering hours at 54.

I am looking for drivers for Best (Rotary Youth Exchange student) to get him to and from school/Rotary meetings. If you can help out with any of these dates please let me know ASAP. I now have to inform the school as to when he will be leaving for the meetings and it is helpful to let them know who will be picking him up and bringing him back. Thanks so much!
If you are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc... You must have an annual background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
