This Week’s Speaker: Paul Patenaude on His Trip to the

Holy Land … with VISUALS This Time!

Paul spoke us several weeks ago on this trip, but our computer was under lock and key … some kind of hostage situation apparently. Well, we have the computer, we have the projector, and we have Paul to reprise his presentation with a collection of slides from his journey.

Last Week’s Speaker: At Pope Farm Conservancy

We had a great turnout at Pope Farm … family, friends, and even a visiting Rotarian from Oklahoma that tracked us down. Jim Olmsted worked hard to pull everything together. Even the weather cooperated (a rare thing these days). We learned about the Conservancy’s unique history, geology,   prairies, soils, glacial features and 20 different vegetative plots. And a lot about the fascinating plants that – with a lot of staff and volunteer help -- make the Farm their home. We also enjoyed the breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of Lake Mendota, the Capitol, Black Earth Creek valley and the terminal moraine.

The Orphan Train Keeps on Traveling

Last year, our club's Foundation received two donations earmarked for the Orphan Train. As a result, we were able to pay for an online Montessori course for Ellen Ambraal, who was raised at TLC Children's Home in South Africa and now works there. It is a three-part course. Ellen has now completed the second component of the program, and received top marks, as she did with the first phase.

Biking for Boys and Girls Club

We bike along with hundreds to raise $ for the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County. Our Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton team is only 3 strong, but other Rotarians made donations.

Rotarian Jerry McAdow organized a Boardman Clark team that we saw often on our 28-mile jaunt. Absolutely lovely Saturday bike ride starting/ending at McKee Farm Farm Park in Fitchburg.

Go to bike4bgc.com to learn more about this event for the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.
