I had the pleasure of sitting down with Tony not long ago to learn more about his life, work, and involvement in Rotary! Tony works at Fairway Mortgage and joined our rotary club in 2010. He loves what he does but when I asked him what he would do if he had to stop working at his current job, he said being a middle school educator would be his top vocational choice! He is fascinated by the development of the young brain and enjoys spending time with kids, no surprise that he's got two of his own and loves parenting.
Tony's main reason for joining rotary was the networking opportunities that such a club presents. He recently attended the leadership summit and learned a considerable amount about the missions and meaning of true community service and the importance of the international nature of Rotary's mission.
Community is extremely important to Tony, and he's been involved at every opportunity for quite some time now. Tony was married in August of 2008, and has a son and daughter with his wife Lori. He grew up in Reedsburg and spent time in Germany while in the army. Coming back in 1993, Tony "floated around" a bit while deciding what was the best fit, doing real estate for awhile and then in 1998 discovered sales and started in Waunakee as a broker. That led him to Fairway in 2011 where he is drawn to the relationships he builds with clients and works on commission that is very dependent on the quality of his work and relationships that he sees as so important to what he does.
One aspect of what Tony believes is critically important to his success is "routine." He believes that you have to work your plan- that led him to the IRON MAN competition not long ago, where he thought "Why not me?" and plunged in full speed ahead. He learned how much of a mental game that challenge is, and what an incredible confidence builder succeeding at something so difficult was for him. He found the experience very centering and eye opening~ and so much of that has only made him better at what he does today. He considers his outlook to be "happy go lucky," and says that reading the daily bible is a very important part of his regular routine.
I also asked Tony what he remembers most or what stands out as an important memory from his childhood, and he said that getting his driver's license was huge! The significance of that independence was amazing! One of the most important and influential people in Tony's life was his stepfather, who taught him the importance of patience, which was an eye-opener, and led Tony to see the importance of going to sporting events of your children. Much of what he learned he applies to his own parenting of son Aidan, 7, and his daughter Paetyn, 3.
It was really fun to talk with Tony about his experiences and be able to share a bit more about his life and interests with fellow rotarians! Take a minute to talk with Tony at lunch and learn more about his thoughts on Rotary and what you might have in common or could learn from one another.

The Glacier Canyon Lodge Conference Center at the Wilderness Resort
Wisconsin Dells, WI
Our Rotary Foundation changes lives all over the world. As Rotarians, we see this daily in our own back yards as well as in regions all over the planet. Come celebrate the Magic that is our Foundation. District 6250 First Annual Foundation Celebration will take place on March 21st, 2015 at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
This event will not only give thanks to those who have supported Our Foundation over the years, but it will encourage Rotarians and Families to help give back right at this event. We will be partnering with Kids Against Hunger hoping to package several thousand meals in this one day. We are not only encouraging Rotarians to bring spouses and children, we are begging you! We need the help to celebrate and give back! Let’s allow our children and spouses/partners to truly experience Rotary.
For the younger kids there will be a kid friendly meal, a magician, and other entertainment. For the rest of us, there will be a lunch as well, cash bar featuring Mimosas and Bloody Marys, sodas, and celebration. We are inviting all 6250 Rotarians and family members to celebrate with us. Whether you are a major donor of the foundation, or whether you want to simply help give back by volunteering to pack meals for a few hours, we want you. Come celebrate with friends and family, learn about our foundation, and help people that could use a meal. Stick around Saturday night with your friends/family with special rates at the Wilderness.

Despite his longstanding interest in polio eradication, polio was not on Joe Pratt's mind as he prepared for a mid-April 2012 climb of Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth. But that changed in late 2011, when the resident of Nottingham, New Hampshire, USA, participated in a polio immunization project in Pakistan with fellow Rotary member Steve Puderbaugh.
Moved by the efforts of the Pakistanis to battle the crippling disease, and by the vulnerability of the young victims, Pratt reset the focus of his climbing adventure. Pakistan is one of three countries where polio has never been...
Members of the Rotary Club of San Francisco Evening meet at a wine bar after work, share a social outing, and promote all their activities on social media like Meetup and Facebook.
As the first evening club in the city, it has attracted many young professionals from Silicon Valley tech firms whose work schedules keep them from joining a more traditional club that meets for breakfast or lunch. But more than that, the evening format has helped the club grow by 30 percent since it received its charter in mid-2013.
Danielle Lallement, who was its charter president, says the club has been...
Blighted schools in the mountain city of Peja in western Kosovo are a reminder of the ethnic strife and war that ravaged this area in the 1990s.
To restore ruined sanitation facilities in some of those schools, local Rotary members recently partnered with their counterparts from Colorado, USA. Though residents have been slowly rebuilding the city's infrastructure after years of neglect under earlier governments, most resources are going to improve roads, rebuild homes, and create new businesses. Little money remains to restore the schools.
As a result, students have fallen ill, stayed home...
Rotary International released an additional $34.8 million in grants to support polio immunization activities in 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan, the three countries where the disease has never been stopped.
The funds, whose release was announced 20 January, will be used by the World Health Organization and UNICEF for polio immunization and surveillance activities in the 10 countries, as well as to provide technical assistance in several other countries in Africa.
The grants include $8.1 million for Nigeria to support its final push to eradicate the disease. Nigeria...
Using their talents, expertise, and leadership, Rotary members worldwide are asked to be gifts to the world this upcoming 2015-16 Rotary year.
Rotary International President-elect K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran called Sunday's address to incoming district governors the "most significant moment of my life."
"All of you have been given so many gifts. And you have now been given this great gift: one year to take all your talents, all your gifts, everything that you are and can become -- and Be a Gift to the World," said Ravindran, revealing his presidential theme at the annual five-day training meeting...
