Mary Feldt was quick to remember being asked to be Sergeant at Arms by then President Otto Cordero. She was deathly afraid of public speaking but her respect of and encouragement from Otto won the day. The experience helped her overcome that fear and became one of her many, many Rotary high points. Among these are the Calgary International Convention, her Paul Harris award, Guatemala trips and bringing so many new members into our club.

What was your proudest achievement in school??
Bill Mowbray related that after kicking over the props in an elementary school drama production I pulled. myself together in high school. I was a trumpeter in the school's brass chorus. After playing the same piece for 3 years at the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo & Ensemble contest, we finally won first place with a perfect score.

What was your most memorable moment?
Answer: "I loved theater and getting to play one of the leads in Look Homeward Angel was the high point.”
Background info: There were two female leads in the play, Eliza the old mother nag of the protagonist or his beautiful young love interest, Laura. You know which one Mary played!!
P.S. There is much more to this story just ask her.

The award honors organizations that show philanthropic commitment and leadership through financial support, innovation, encouragement of others, and involvement in public affairs. Some of the boldest names in American giving — Kellogg, Komen, and MacArthur, among others —are past honorees.
We recently received a donation for $250 from Cheryl and Tom Retzlaff, the suggested use being the Orphan Train Project. I work with Cheryl at Integrity Wealth Advisors. On Saturday, a group from Madison (Heart to Heart Experiences) will be going to Guatemala to build some houses in a community known as Sumpango (different place than the other Sumpango we know). They also will be building some bunk beds for an orphanage known as Madre Anna Vitello, which is located nearby. Your Rotary Club's own foundation, through the Orphan Train Project, is sending Maha McDiarmid of Mooseheart to teach their model of care at the Madre Anna Vitello Orphanage. Ms. McDiarmid will travel with the Heart to Heart group.
I learned, through Mark Landgraf (Madison/Heart to Heart organizer), that the bunk beds they are building cost about $60 each for materials. The orphanage needs many, and funds available to Heart to Heart will only pay for about one dozen. If we use the $250, we can add approximately 4+ bunkbeds towards their needs.
If you are okay with sending the $250 with Mark, it would be a big help in fulfilling a basic need for the children of Madre Anna Vitello Orphanage. By sending the money with Mark, we avoid bank charges at both ends, allowing more for beds.
