Are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc...
If YES, you need to have an annual background check completed. CLICK HERE for more details about how to get your background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
Mick Faulhaber is our Youth Protection Officer for our Club. Contact him if you have any questions or concerns.
Friday, September 16, Madison West Town-Middleton Rotarians were treated to a delightful lunchtime history of a local treasure --- Pope Farm Conservancy, preserving the land and its stories. Mel Pope, son of the grounds' founder Art Pope, a former University of Wisconsin Animal Science Professor, gave a brief history of the sacred grounds... the Indians' trails winding from Lake Mendota into Middleton...up to today when carloads of families come out for each summer to see thousands of colorful sunflowers.
Pope Farm Conservancy is 105 acres that sits on top of three recessional moraines in the Town of Middleton, where three different watersheds come together. A 360 degree panoramic view of Lake Mendota, the Capitol and Madison’s west side can
Mel Pope, son of the grounds' founder Art Pope
be seen to the east, the Black Earth Creek valley to the North, and the terminal moraine to the South and West.
We're anxious to come back often, to enjoy the blissful views and quiet of this oasis.
And we'll Google "Ted Kennedy skiing at Blackhawk Ski area" to learn about his 1960 campaign stop at this future park for brother John F. Kennedy.
Thank you Mel Pope and the Pope family for preserving this land for all to enjoy, and never an admission charge. popefarmconservancy.org
WWMV-LP's on-air broadcasts will reach outward 10 miles in all directions, though if the radio waves reach Lake Mendota, they've got a clear shot all the way to campus across the water! And most of WWMV-LP's programs will also be posted online at wwmvlp.org, so anyone can listen anytime from anywhere.

The Madison Metropolitan School District tutor trainings are led by MMSD staff. This training workshop is open to all new and continuing volunteer tutors. The most effective tutors are those that have been specifically trained for the job. Being a tutor is different than being a mentor or a classroom volunteer. These workshops teach tutors specific strategies to build effective relationships, guide learning and promote student confidence and competence.
If you have any questions, please contact Laura Whitmore, MMSD Community Partnership Coordinator at (608) 663-4941 whitmore@madison.k12.wi.us.
This is a great way to support the vocational avenue of service for our club. Thanks!

The Rotary Club of San Diego, California, USA, was applauded for its work mentoring Monarch's students, keeping them on track to graduate, and helping the school to continue thriving during tough economic times.
Monarch School CEO Erin Spiewak appeared as one of the show's guests, along with Monarch Alumnus Cynthia Valenzuela, who attested to the positive, life-changing experience Monarch School gave her and...
Nations around the world will observe the International Day of Peace on 21 September, a date designated by the United Nations in 2001 as "a day of global ceasefire and nonviolence."
Rotary's commitment to building peace and resolving conflict is rooted in the Rotary Peace Centers program, formed in 2002. Each year, the program prepares up to 100 fellows to work for peace through a two-year master's degree program or a three-month professional certificate program at university partners worldwide.
Today, nearly 1,000 peace centers alumni are applying their skills — negotiating peace in conflict...
