Rotary District 6250 will host an event at the Madison Capital from 4 pm to 6 pm. We will be meeting at the State Street side of the Capital to create awareness of Rotary’s impact on the eradication of Polio.
Rotary members in Wisconsin are among millions reaching out on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio – a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.
Mike Edlinger told us about some unique uses for dogs. Taking the animals from shelters, the Working Dogs for Conservation train them for all sorts of unusual tasks: helping locate rare wild animals to protect them from poachers, assisting in identifying poachers in Zambia by uncovering ivory and weapons, monitoring population of animals in the wild through their scat, helping determine the impact of infrastructure projects on local animal populations, and spotting invasive plant colonies. Their sense of smell is extraordinary, they enjoy the work, and they avoid potential euthanization. The organization was founded and is headquartered in Bozeman, Montana. Their highly-trained dogs have worked on five continents in dozens of projects.
We need more footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, Frisbee and double-dutch ropes for recess activities. If any Rotarians have these in their garage and they are not using them, Jefferson Middle School could give them a great home.
This is our 7th year of the McAdow’s Miles for Rotary (reformed as McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team). We have peddled over 10,200 miles and we have received pledges for $1,035 to date. Please support this very important fundraiser.
The Team’s combined mileage goal for this year was expected to be 10,000 miles. Jerry and the Team are still riding and they have already exceeded their mileage goal but not their $5,000 goal! Jerry himself has pledged $.05/mile for every mile he rides with no maximum amount now the Team needs your pledge.
Remember the Pledge Ride season ends at Midnight December 31, 2017!
A generous McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team supporter has presented us with a Pledge Challenge. For each pledge made by a person who is not a member or a relative of a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, an anonymous sponsor will donate $25, up to a total of $1,000.
Your tax-deductible Pledge will help fund our Rotary Club's ongoing activities both in our local communities and internationally.
You will be billed for your pledge in January 2018.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Paul Patenaude at
Jefferson Middle School's Go to School Night is on Thursday, October 19th 6-7:30 pm. It would be great if Rotary could be here again with information for parents.
Several weeks ago we first published a notice about the help needed after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and surrounding states. First, we suggested contributions are made would be given to the Red Cross. Then District 6250 announced they were collecting funds for Hurricane Harvey relief through the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust, so we added that to how you could give for hurricane relief. Then along came Hurricane Irma and the aftermath of that is for even more relief. As I write this, several additional Hurricanes are growing in force, with their direction of movement still not completely determined.
As Rotarians, we have a deep and lasting commitment to service. The Board of Directors has decided to keep the collection of relief funds open for several more weeks. The Board has also decided to contribute $500 for relief to the District 6250 Charitable Trust, with instructions for the Trustees to distribute the Hurricane relief funds, to Rotary Clubs, etc. in the affected areas as they see fit.
make your check payable to Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust and Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust. Mark on the check notation line: Hurricane Relief. Mail your check to Jim Emerick, Treasurer, MWT-M Rotary Club, P.O. Box 620312, Middleton, WI 53562-0312, or hand deliver it at a Rotary meeting to Jim, the Assistant Treasurer for that meeting, or the Sargent-At-Arms Leo Edelstein, either of which will see the Treasurer gets the check. To contribute through Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary FoundationYou can make your check payable to the mail it to Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust, Attn: HHRF, 907 Martin Drive, Marshfield, WI 54449.
100% of your contribution will go to those that truly need it. Contributions to either the Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Foundation or the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust are fully tax deductible.
You may recall our Club switched billing last year to members paying only for meals consumed from paying for all meals, whether you showed up or not. We monitored how this change was going to impact the Club budget. It turns out we were coming up a little short and were having to make up the difference from the existing club accounts. We trimmed down the budget to lessen the budget impact, but we're still not meeting budget requirements.
Your Board is proposing an increase in Club dues for the July 2017 - June 2018 Rotary year.
Rotary International fees increased from $79 to $83 this year.
District 6250 dues remained the same at $40 annually.
Club dues are increasing to $133 from $117.
So your total annual dues will be $256 ($64 per quarter): $133 for the Club, $40 for the District, $83 for Rotary International. And you'll pay for your meals, of course. This will resolve the budget impact of switching how we account for meals. We know dues are a sensitive issue, but you are, after all, only paying for the meals you eat, not the ones you miss.
On October 20th we will have a Club Assembly where we'll review the budget for all members.
Our District 6250 believes that a strong leadership succession plan helps keep our Clubs strong and vibrant and we encourage all Clubs to have succession plans.
It is now time to work on the selection process for the 2020-2021 Rotary year District Governor year. The nominated person must have been a Club President and be in good standing with the Club.
Please give serious thought to the Rotarians in your Club who you believe have the qualifications to lead our District and notify Nominating Committee Chair Mary Van Hout at maryevanhout@gmail.com or 608 836 1603 before the end of September. The committee can provide all details of the position and answer questions that may arise. Working together, we can build a better District and stronger Clubs today and in the years to come!!
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
