Speaker Recap, Sept 8 Meeting
MyTEAM TRIUMPH – the Thrill of Victory for Those with Disabilities
John Patterson and Jim Trader talked with us about MyTEAM TRIUMPH, a program founded in 2008 to enrich the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics like triathlons and road races. The Wisconsin Chapter started in 2012. We saw the passion this group brings to their program … running alongside kids and adults with disabilities in events around the state. Specialized equipment helps make it possible. Participants get to experience the thrill of completing a race. Charity Angels are the athletes who help their disabled Captains cross the finish line. A noble and inspirational endeavor … see more at myteamtriumph.org.

Oktoberfest Sponsorship Opportunity

Dear Fellow Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotarians;

With the arrival of September, our thoughts turn to the beginning of another school year, UW home Football games, the turning of the leaves, and of course, our WT-M 3rdAnnual Oktoberfest Fundraising activity.

While it will certainly be important for all of us to be involved the days of the event, we would ask each of you who are business owners to consider a sponsorship for the event; or, we would ask that you invite your employer to serve as a sponsor for our great event.  What a wonderful opportunity to promote our businesses and our commitment to and engagement in our Rotary membership.

Additionally, if you know of a business in the West Madison and/or Middleton area that you think would be interested in supporting our valuable and worthy causes, please invite them to join us a sponsor.

This year, for the first time, we are also offering a $100 Signature Sponsor opportunity.  This is a great way for us to make a personal commitment to our Club’s great fundraising event.  To date, the Recknor Family, the Brazeau Family and the Growney-Selene-Hart Families have self-identified as “Signature Sponsors”.

See the relevant information linked below for your review and please consider a sponsorship at any level for the event.  I would be happy to meet with you and discuss this further or answer any questions you might have.  If you are willing, or know of a business that is willing, please let me know as soon as you get a commitment.

Thank you for your consideration and for allowing me to make this ask.  I will look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards,

Save the Date! The Great Rotary Oktoberfest

Chromebooks Returned with Something New

On Wednesday, August 31, the Jefferson Adopt-a-Partner Committee (Deb Dieter, Roxanne Brazeau, Dean Ryerson, Matt Loch and Mary Beth Growney-Selene) returned to Jefferson Middle School with the Chromebooks and cart that our Club had previously donated to them. Over the summer, the Chromebooks and cart were outfitted with our Club's name. The committee was greeted by Colleen Stilson, ITC, Instructional Technology at Jefferson Middle School.

Back to School?  Cool!
Our cool Rotarians stayed after the Aug 26 meeting to prepare a back to school surprise for some Jefferson Middle School students in need. Representatives at our adopted school informed us of a need for backpacks and school supplies. It seems that far too many students start school with little or no such necessities.

Well, enter Deb Dieter, Roxanne Brazeau, Dean Ryerson and a cast of others. The project was approved at the board meeting with a budget of $3,500 to fill 65 backpacks. Deb did some fast and furious shopping. Dawn and Aaron Frank secured the backpacks and made a significant contribution. All that led up to a successful stuff-a-thon last Friday.

Thanks to our many assembly-line Rotarians we completed the task on time, under budget and had a blast in the process. Know that your efforts will ensure that needy students will start their year at Jefferson well-equipped and looking good!

Each month, eBay, the world’s largest auction website, selects a set of upcoming Live Auction events and donates a portion of all sales proceeds to Rotary. Only U.S. auction sales are eligible. See the schedule of September auctions.

Rotary clubs of District 6200 are collecting relief funds to help thousands of victims after record flooding devastated communities in southern Louisiana, USA, earlier this month. Torrential rains caused rivers, streams, and bayous to swell, damaging or destroying more than 60,000 homes and killing at least 13 people. The U.S. Coast Guard and emergency responders helped rescue more than 30,000 residents from the rising flood waters. As of 25 August, more than 3,000 residents were still in emergency shelters even after the water receded. Donate to District 6200 disaster relief fund.
