Wisconsin born and bred, Roxanne Brazeau has spent her entire working life in banking, starting while she was in college at the UW. An active marathoner, she’s also been married for twenty-two years. Her first child was an anxiety-producing very early delivery, but everything has worked out wonderfully. The Club’s tight relationship with Jefferson Middle School depends a lot on Roxanne.
A career Minnesota pharmacist, Dennis Zitnak recently moved to Madison with his wife for six specific reasons: six grandkids. His wife had the intuitive idea to move to our town after a lifetime across the river in Minnesota, and Dennis feels it’s been a great decision. He’s an avid golfer and car buff. He’s also an active volunteer – St. Vincent de Paul and a charitable pharmacy,
Barry Pace grew up in the projects in Newark in northern New Jersey. Stickball in the streets was a popular sport. He did well in school, and an earnest school counselor helped pay for college applications for him. He wound up with a Bachelor’s from Northwestern and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Worked in consulting, including an assignment to do some interviews in Madison; one interviewee became his wife. Moved to Madison from Northbrook two years ago.
Several weeks ago we first published a notice about the help needed after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and surrounding states. First, we suggested contributions to be made would be given to the Red Cross. Then District 6250 announced they were collecting funds for Hurricane Harvey relief through the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust, so we added that to how you could give for hurricane relief. Then along came Hurricane Irma and the aftermath of that is for even more relief. As I write this, several additional Hurricanes are growing in force, with their direction of movement still not completely determined.
As Rotarians, we have a deep and lasting commitment of service. The Board of Directors has decided to keep the collection of relief funds open for several more weeks. The Board has also decided to contribute $500 for relief to the District 6250 Charitable Trust, with instructions for the Trustees to distribute the Hurricane relief funds, to Rotary Clubs, etc. in the affected areas as they see fit.
You can make your check payable either to the Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Foundation or to Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust. Mark on the check notation line: Hurricane Relief. Mail your check to Jim Emerick, Treasurer, MWT-M Rotary Club, P.O. Box 620312, Middleton, WI 53562-0312, or hand deliver it at a Rotary meeting to Jim, the Assistant Treasurer for that meeting, or the Sargent At Arms Leo Edelstein, either of which will see the Treasurer gets the check.
100% of your contribution will go to those that truly need it. Contributions to either the Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Foundation or the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust are fully tax deductible.
On Friday, September 22, 2017, from 5:30 - 7:30 PM, the Lussier Community Education Center is celebrating the first year of the launch of their radio station WWMV 95.5FM. There will be live music, great food, entertainment and more! ALL ARE WELCOME! The Rotary Club supports the Center in different ways including this year donating $1,000 and getting a District Matching Grant of $1,000, for a total of $2,000. The funds will be used to purchase remote broadcasting equipment and printing publicity brochures. It is our intent this year to get Rotarians involved with the radio operations and have some broadcasts involving Rotarians.
Treasure hunting on our adopted stretch of the Beltline is scheduled for Thursday, September 28, 2017. Our adopted highway is the south right-of-way of the Beltline between Whitney Way and Gammon Road, about a 1.53 mile stretch, including on and off ramps. This community service project is fun and it meets one of our 12 x 12 goals.
Trash pick-up begins across Schroeder Road in the Beltline’s south right-of-way and goes west to Gammon Road. It takes about two hours to complete the project.
Cars will be shuttled to the Gammon Road endpoint so we can ride back to Vitense Golfland.
Safety bibs and trash bags will be supplied. Wear long pants, good shoes and bring gloves.
Rod Nilles will e-mail you at noon on Thursday if there is a cancellation due to weather.
E-mail me, Rod Nilles, if you need to cancel. I plan to take attendance so I do not leave anyone behind.
How many phones will you find?

This is a great way to put SERVICE ABOVE SELF into action.

Starting in 2016 Jerry and a group of fellow cyclists formed McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team!
We in the Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Club are combining this great activity with an opportunity for you to make a per mile pledge for the year 2017 with the proceeds going to fund ongoing Rotary activities. The Team’s goal for this year is 10,000 miles and $5,000. Jerry himself has pledged $.05/mile for every mile he rides with no maximum amount. The more the Team bikes, by midnight December 31, 2017, the more support you can give to our Rotary Foundation. We will keep you advised of the miles the McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team accumulates in 2017 and the places they go (with pictures) at our website, mcadowmiles.org/ and our Facebook page, Facebook.com/McAdow’s MilesforRotary.
4,000 MILES
TEAM MILAGE GOAL FOR
2017 PLEDGING SEASON!
Remember the Pledge Ride season ends at Midnight December 31, 2017!
1. Pledge per mile for unlimited miles, or
2. Pledge per mile with a maximum amount, or
3. Pledge a fixed amount.
A generous McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team supporter has presented us with a Pledge Challenge. For each pledge made by a person who is not a member or a relative of a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton an anonymous sponsor will donate $25, up to a total of $1,000.
You may recall our Club switched billing last year to members paying only for meals consumed from paying for all meals, whether you showed up or not. We monitored how this change was going to impact the Club budget. It turns out we were coming up a little short and were having to make up the difference from the existing club accounts. We trimmed down the budget to lessen the budget impact, but we're still not meeting budget requirements.
Your Board is proposing an increase in Club dues for the July 2017 - June 2018 Rotary year.
Rotary International fees increased from $79 to $83 this year.
District 6250 dues remained the same at $40 annually.
Club dues are increasing to $133 from $117.
So your total annual dues will be $256 ($64 per quarter): $133 for the Club, $40 for the District, $83 for Rotary International. And you'll pay for your meals, of course. This will resolve the budget impact of switching how we account for meals. We know dues are a sensitive issue, but you are, after all, only paying for the meals you eat, not the ones you miss.
On October 20th we will have a Club Assembly where we'll review the budget for all members.
Alicja (Al-Les-ya) Kaznica is from Bydgoszcz, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Poland.
Alicja is our inbound Rotary Youth Exchange student and she was welcomed at our Club meeting last Friday.

It is now time to work on the selection process for the 2020-2021 Rotary year District Governor year. The nominated person must have been a Club President and be in good standing with the Club.
Please give serious thought to the Rotarians in your Club who you believe have the qualifications to lead our District and notify Nominating Committee Chair Mary Van Hout at maryevanhout@gmail.com or 608 836 1603 before the end of September. The committee can provide all details of the position and answer questions that may arise. Working together, we can build a better District and stronger Clubs today and in the years to come!!
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
