District Conference was this past weekend. It was truly a wonderful conference. This year was unique because never before had 3 Rotary Districts, covering Wisconsin, parts of Minnesota, and Michigan, joined forces in a conference like this one. We had over 600 participants including 80 Rotary Youth Exchange students.
There was ENERGY, EXCITEMENT, and GOOD FEELINGS all around! The entertainment was fabulous and dancing was popular on both Friday and Saturday nights. Great speakers added value to the overall conference. The speakers moved us in many ways and each had an important message to share.
During the weekend we had time to reflect, remember, envision, inspire, and take action. The conference participants raised over $35,000 for The Rotary Foundation / Polio Plus.
Our club was well represented at the conference. Our newest member, Dawn Frank and her husband Aaron Frank attended their first district conference last weekend and they had the pleasure of driving 3 Rotary Youth Exchange students home on Sunday. Leo Edelstein also attended and he drove 2 Rotary Youth Exchange students to the conference on Friday.
I've been attending District Conferences since 2005 and for me, this was my favorite conference. If you have never attended a Rotary District Conference, take my advice and come to the next district conference in Madison at Union South on May 6, 2016. Our very own Mary Van Hout will be District Governor and we should show our support and have a good time.
Below are some highlights of the conference:
The three DGs with President's rep PDG Jessie Harman and Rotary International Director Mary Beth Growney Selene at the conclusion of Saturday's TRI-CON 2015.
When's the last time you saw a large enough group of exchange students that every flag could be carried by at least one inbound or outbound student. Awesome flag ceremony with almost 80 participants.
PDG Chuck Hanson, DGE Mary Van Hout, and AG John Locke supporting Rotary's effort to #EndPolioNow at Tri-Con!
Rob Stroud is given the "Service Above Self" award.
District Governor Nomoniee Designate 2017-18
and TRF Foundation Chair For D6250
District 6250 Rotarians – I am so humbled and honored to be your foundation chair and a 6250 Rotarian. Yesterday, District 6250 made an amazing statement. For those of you not at the TriCon, we had an unexpected donor from our District come forward with a $10,000 match if I could raise the other $10,000 from our district Rotarians by the end of the day.
Not only did we meet this challenge in under 8 hours, we exceeded it. We raise $10,445. With the additional $10,000 on top of that, our district raised $20,445 just from that challenge. In addition, our Rotarians purchased Polio T-shirts, Polio buttons, and donated to the Polio text promotion. I would guess that D6250 Rotarians donated well over $25k for the weekend.
What a statement of our commitment to changing lives all over the world. Thank you Rotary 6250!
Our work isn’t done. Remember that the Rotary year ends on June 30th. Please remind your clubs we need dollars sent in before then. There are many clubs that haven’t reached their Foundation Goals for the year. Check with your president and Foundation chair and have them contact me if there are any questions. We need your help. Thank you again D6250 members.
You made our district proud! You provided clean water, saved children from permanent paralysis, provided food to the hungry, provided medicine to those without care, and so much more. You made a difference to so many. You have changed lives.
That is the power of Our Foundation
The Rotary Club fo Madison West Towne-Middleton was awarded the Presidential Citation for 2014-15 on Friday, May 15
Clubs that are growing stronger, creating positive change in our communities, and enhancing our public image deserve recognition. The Presidential Citation is one way to acknowledge their work.
Light Up Rotary is not just our theme for the year — it is a call for each of us to take action and make Rotary stronger. The 2014-15 Presidential Citation will recognize Rotary clubs that take action to increase their membership, enhance their service impact, and expand their network.
