High School Summer Exchange

Applications are being accepted through February 1, 2019, for the upcoming Summer High School Exchange program. The Rotary Short Term Exchange Program, known as STEP, is a Family-to-Family exchange for students ages 15 to 18. This is a great program for students not interested in our one-year exchange program.

Students submit their application indicating their top 3 country choices and a match is established with an international family.  The U.S. student spends 3-5 weeks abroad with their host family. During the same summer, the U.S. student hosts his/her brother/sister in the U.S.  Exact dates are determined by the two families.  There is no academic component of this exchange. Some of the countries available in the Rotary STEP: Brazil, Czech Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. For more detailed information, go to  www.rotary6260.org/STEP or email: Rotary6250.summerexchange@gmail.com / 608-577-6395, coordinator Janine O’Rourke

Folks please pay a visit to ClubRunner and check that your anniversary and partner are listed in your entry. If you don’t know how to access ClubRunner, drop me an email.

Calling All Projects: Undesignated Funds

At our November foundation board of directors meeting we reviewed our funding and commitments. For fiscal year 2018-2019, we funded all approved projects and still had a total of $5,635 available. In one instance we did not receive a district matching grant for Jefferson Middle School.  Further, we did not have approved projects to use all the community service funding.  Due to high demand, all district matching grant funds have been committed already.  In keeping with our mission, we would like to find a way to best utilize these undesignated funds.

We will accept applications for such undesignated funds no later than December 31, 2018.  If anyone from the club has a project that requires funding, they should complete the Undesignated Funds Request (available on Club Runner) and submit it to the appropriate Avenue of Service Chair as follows:
  • Community – Kevin Welton
  • International – Steve Aune
  • Vocational – Roxanne Brazeau
All funding requests will be reviewed by the chair, who will make final recommendations to the board of directors.  The board will review all recommended projects and vote to approve any such projects at the regularly scheduled board meeting January 15, 2019.  Applicants will be notified of the board decision shortly thereafter.  If you have any questions, contact Matt Loch at matthew.loch@tdsmetro.com.

Doing Rotary Makeups

If you’re unable to make a Club meeting, but want to keep your attendance up, there are several easy ways to do this:
Simply go a meeting at another Club within two weeks (before or after) your missed meeting at our Club. Fill out the paperwork when you attend that meeting, and then send our Secretary an email … or enter it yourself in ClubRunner. Here’s a list of area Clubs and meeting times:
Go online to rotaryeclubone.org and spend an hour or so reviewing articles or watching videos about Rotary programs. You can then click a few buttons to submit that as a makeup for your missed meeting.

Take on a volunteer commitment or attend a Club meeting other than the normal Friday meeting. Working Oakwood Bingo, sitting in a Board or committee meeting, helping out at a food pantry, pitching in with Middleton HS Interact Club, getting dirty with Adopt-a-Highway – all those efforts count as a makeup. You can enter the makeup online or send the Secretary an email.

Items for the Bulletin

If you have something you think should go into our weekly Bulletin, please send it to me at the email address on top of this Bulletin. Please include the phrase ‘FOR THE BULLETIN’ in your subject line.

Pigskin Payoff

If you missed paying up (and bringing non-perishables) at the Dec 14 meeting, bring them to the Jan 4 meeting. $56 for regular pledgers; $112 for double pledgers; 2 non-perishable food items from both.
YOU WILL BE HUNTED DOWN!

Adopt-A-Cot (from Ed Fink and Orphan Train)

Welcome to 'Team Astrid' all our new Adopt-A-Cot supporters! To all our Adopt-A-Cot supporters, old and new, we would like to extend heartfelt thanks for championing our cause. We wish you a peaceful, blessed festive season from all of us at TLC Children's Home. To give you a bit more background into the Adopt-A-Cot program, you are part of a team of sponsors funding this cot. Together, your donations cover the costs of nappies, food, formula and medical expenses for this child in particular, and also contribute towards the other costs of running a children's home, such as electricity, water, education, salaries for permanent caregivers and petrol for lifts, to name a few. We are so incredibly grateful to have you on board. Because of you, Astrid is able to live in a loving environment, in spite of a difficult start.

Note this is a program in South Africa we’ve helped along with staff training and funding.

Explore Rotary Fellowships

Rotary Fellowships consist of members who share a common interest in recreational activities, sports, hobbies, or professions. These groups help expand skills, foster vocational development and enhance the Rotary experience by exploring interests while developing connections around the world.  Below is a sampling of fellowships for you to explore. Each listing is a live link (hold the control key and click on the link) See more information on the Rotary.org website.
