Member Engagement

Last Week’s Speaker: Todd Pierce, Veridian Construction

Veridian was founded 15-16 years ago with the merger of Don Simon & Midland Construction. It has 17-18 different communities in Dane County. 1000 Oaks is a new development at Mineral Point Rd and South Point. In this market, under $300K has the greatest demand, with $290-450K being the ‘sweet spot.’ Permits continue to climb, but Veridian expects a hiccup before too long as interest rates look to rise. The company offers a range of customization options, with a 146 contract-to-completion timeframe.

Thanksgiving Week Volunteering: Tuesday, Nov 20 at The River Food Pantry

Tony Burns is heading up a 4:15-7:00 pm Nov 20 volunteer gig at The River Food Pantry (2201 Darwin Rd, Madison). This will be one of our 12 x 12 events – trying to get a volunteer event with 12 Rotarians every month of the year. Tony will be making an announcement this Friday and passing around a signup sheet. We’ll also be presenting the Pantry with our $1,000 annual check. Note this is two days before Thanksgiving, so it will not conflict with your own bird activities.

Consider Joining Your Rotary Club’s Board

We’ll be needing some Board members come July 1 of next year. We need to get them announced and confirmed before the end of this year. We’re looking for members in International Service, Community Service, Club Service, and Vocational Service, as well as a President-Elect. Extend your service to your Club and learn the details of how we do all the good things we do. Talk to President Matt Loch or President-Elect Dawn Frank for details. Rotary: Making a Difference.

Cheese Time

Madison East-Monona Rotary Club is hosting its annual Cheese Box sale. They’re offering two different boxes: The Assorted Gift Box includes 8oz each of 1 yr sharp and 2 yr cheddar, 8 oz sharp cheese spread and 7 oz summer sausage. The Aged Cheddar Sampler includes 8 oz each of 1 yr, 3 yr, and 5 year cheddar. Harry Ripp from that Club will be visiting us on Nov 16th to help with order. You can also go to the Club’s Facebook page and order there. Orders close November 27th.

Board Meeting on the 20th

The Club and Foundation Boards will be meeting on Nov 20th at 7am. We meet at the TDS Corporate Building on Junction Road. Park in the food mall south of the building and enter through the nearest TDS entrance. Then turn left. We’ll be looking for you. Meetings typically run until 930.

Middleton High School Interact Club

This is a new club, and they are getting to work...about 35 members, they have raised about $3,000 towards a goal of $3,500 for a well in Liberia.  They have plans for another well fundraiser.

I am our Club liaison to the Middleton HS Interact Club that we co-sponsor with the Madison West Club.  This is a great opportunity for us to plant some Rotary seeds for the future. These kids need and want to volunteer, so please let me know if you have a project they could volunteer for, so we can start helping and building a relationship with this Club.
