Purple ink on the pinkie finger tells both volunteers and the child’s neighborhood that one more person is safe from the horror of polio.
It is more than a way to identify who has been immunized. It is a symbol of defiance against a crippling disease and a symbol of hope for a polio-free world. No one is safe until all are safe. End Polio Now. Polio has been reduced by 99%. We are closer than ever to ending this crippling disease forever. For as little as 60 cents, a child can be vaccinated against polio for life.

WORLD POLIO DAY Awareness Event
Tuesday, October 24, 2017 - 4 pm to 6 pm
Madison State Capitol Steps
Rotary District 6250 will host an event at the Madison Capitol from 4 pm to 6 pm. We will be meeting at the State Street side of the Capitol to create awareness of Rotary’s impact on the eradication of Polio.
Rotary members in Wisconsin are among millions reaching out on World Polio Day to raise awareness, funds, and support to end polio – a vaccine-preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.
Jefferson Middle School's Go to School Night is on Thursday, October 19th 6-7:30 pm. It would be great if Rotary could be here again with information for parents.
A speaker canceled and our intrepid Mary Cobb Dunn stepped in with an impromptu program on our Club website and on ClubRunner, the software program many Clubs use to manage operations.
When you access that link, you can look at past and upcoming speakers, find out about upcoming events, including fundraisers, view the weekly Bulletin, access greeter duty rosters, access forms for check requests and leave of absence requests and much more. You'll gain insight into the breadth of our activities.
On the bar above that page, you'll see a link for Member Area, which will log you into ClubRunner itself. This is the nerve center of Club operations ... attendance, Board documents, individual member information, dues information and much more.
Mary walked us through much of this, facing down a frankly rowdy crowd. Her knowledge of this material is critical to Club operation. Appreciate her.
A generous McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team supporter has presented us with a Pledge Challenge. For each pledge made by a person who is not a member or a relative of a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, an anonymous sponsor will donate $25, up to a total of $1,000.
Your tax-deductible Pledge will help fund our Rotary Club's ongoing activities both in our local communities and internationally.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Paul Patenaude at 608-609-8034 or email at ppaten98@sbcglobal.net
Several weeks ago we first published a notice about the help needed after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and surrounding states. First, we suggested contributions are made would be given to the Red Cross. Then District 6250 announced they were collecting funds for Hurricane Harvey relief through the Rotary District 6250 Charitable Trust, so we added that to how you could give for hurricane relief. Then along came Hurricane Irma and the aftermath of that is for even more relief. As I write this, several additional Hurricanes are growing in force, with their direction of movement still not completely determined.
As Rotarians, we have a deep and lasting commitment to service. The Board of Directors has decided to keep the collection of relief funds open for several more weeks. The Board has also decided to contribute $500 for relief to the District 6250 Charitable Trust, with instructions for the Trustees to distribute the Hurricane relief funds, to Rotary Clubs, etc. in the affected areas as they see fit.

Our District 6250 believes that a strong leadership succession plan helps keep our Clubs strong and vibrant and we encourage all Clubs to have succession plans.
It is now time to work on the selection process for the 2020-2021 Rotary year District Governor year. The nominated person must have been a Club President and be in good standing with the Club.
Please give serious thought to the Rotarians in your Club who you believe have the qualifications to lead our District and notify Nominating Committee Chair Mary Van Hout at maryevanhout@gmail.com or 608 836 1603 before the end of September. The committee can provide all details of the position and answer questions that may arise. Working together, we can build a better District and stronger Clubs today and in the years to come!!
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
