Are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc...
If YES, you need to have an annual background check completed. CLICK HERE for more details about how to get your background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.

Authentic Conversations: What Happens When You Are Real
"As a kid I was obsessed with Harry Houdini. I became convinced I could do escapes just like him. I had my sister lock me in a large tool box. Fortunately she let me out when it became apparent that I wasn't Houdini."
What was your scariest moment?
Leo's scariest moment.
"In the early 70's I drove a cab in Milwaukee. One night my fare said "give me all your money" I never looked back to see if he had a weapon I just shoveled everything I had back to him. After that I never drove a cab at night. Also I never told my mother."
What was your most memorable moment??
Answer: "I loved theater and getting to play one of the leads in Look Homeward Angel was the high point.”
Background info: There were two female leads in the play, Eliza the old mother nag of the protagonist or his beautiful young love interest, Laura. You know which one Mary played!!
P.S. There is much more to this story just ask her.

Foundation Trustee and long-time super-star member Mary Beth Growney Selene gave us all a lot to be proud of in talking about a century of good works funded by The Rotary Foundation. With the Centennial Initiative to support the Annual Fund, Rotary is looking for its members to enhance the funds available by signing on to a $365 annual contribution. What’s given to the Foundation earns interest/income for three years before it becomes available for charitable endeavors. This keeps the Foundation capital secure, and it provides a substantial amount for redirection back to the Districts and for matching Global Grants, supporting polio eradication, and for the scores of other initiatives on which the world has long looked to Rotary for assistance.

Please keep Best in mind for including in your activities.
Todd Wiegand was approved for membership by the Board at the November meeting. His name will be published in the bulletin for 2 weeks and then can be inducted.
Todd is a real estate investor and airline pilot. He is a University of Wisconsin graduate. He and his wife live in Middleton and his two daughters attend Middleton High School.
We completed the Nepal visit one month ago. It was a great experience, as I am sure the other participants would agree. It is now time to prepare for future trips. Here is an idea of what is being done.
We already have an exchange arranged with the Philippines. Edwin Bos, from Fort Atkinson, who traveled to Nepal, is coordinating the trip. Our group will travel to the Philippines late January, early February.
We have a confirmed trip to Gujarat, India. They have a group of six couples who will come to our district in May or June. We have a group from our district that will travel at the end of January, early February. Cheryl Mader and I are co-arranging this trip at this time. The specifics will not be created until we are sure we have a group of around 10 to make the trip.
Mark Moody, who traveled to Nepal, has taken on the duty of starting arrangements for an exchange to Peru. I am not sure if it will be near Lima, or Cusco, or both, but keep your eyes open for a trip to and from Peru in the next year or so.
I am trying to arrange an exchange with Iceland. That will take some effort. It appears they have not participated in a Friendship Exchange before. I will keep everyone informed as we build on these trips.
Let me know if you are interested in traveling on any of these trips. I really need your help getting the word out on these exchanges. Please announce what you feel is appropriate to your clubs. As parts of the trips take shape, they will show up on the district web page, district newsletter and district facebook page.
Time's running out to support the McAdow's Miles for Rotary Team!
Starting in 2016 Jerry and a group of fellow enthusiasts are now McAdow Miles for RotaryTeam! Paul Patenaude encouraged the fund raiser to continue as a team effort. He is a recreational rider as is Peter Hoff who rides with Paul. Leo Edelstein rides with the team on the Saturday group rides. John Olson also rides with the group rides. Svein Morner rides to work and to Rotary. Tony Burns participates in triathlons when he’s not working. Susan Prest, Alan Sherwood and Friend ride in the Waupaca Area.
This is our 6th year doing this voluntary fundraiser within our club. In past years we have raised between $5,000 - $6,000 each year to support Foundation projects.
The By-Laws for the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, state the following:
Section 1 – Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of this club shall be the first regular meeting in December of each year, at which time the election of directors to serve for the ensuing two years shall take place.
Our Club’s first meeting in December will be December 2nd; however, District Governor, Dean McHugh, will be visiting our Club that day.
Due to other scheduling conflicts, the Board of Directors has chosen to move the Annual Meeting to Friday December 16th at which time the election of the directors will take place. The Board of Directors wants each club member to be aware of this change in the date of the Annual Meeting.
As bingo has become a go-to game for many seniors, researchers have also discovered that playing this game can have health benefits for the elderly. It can be an excellent way for them to promote their mental, emotional, and physical health.
Our own John Gerold (Bingo Czar) leads a group of volunteers to run bingo games at Oakwood Village – University Woods at 6 – 7:30 pm the third Thursday every month from November through May.
Signup at Friday meetings.
John will send a reminder and logistical information to each volunteer ahead of each session. This activity also qualifies for a meeting make-up, if one is needed.

Some Rotarians have reported receiving a scam email asking them to click a link to update names and contact information in a directory.
The email, which stems from a gmail account, is not from Rotary.
Rotary members in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, celebrated 100 years of The Rotary Foundation on 23 October with a banquet and a concert by The Cleveland Orchestra that have so far raised more than $2.1 million for the Foundation's next century of good work.
Arch Klumph, a Cleveland Rotarian, planted the seed for The Rotary Foundation in 1917, with his idea of having an endowment fund dedicated to "doing good in the world." Today's District 6630 leaders thought that a concert was a fitting way to honor Klumph and mark the centennial because of Klumph's love of music. Klumph performed in several...
Participation in this year’s World Polio Day live-streamed event continued the growth registered since it began in 2014.
Rotary, the world’s leading advocacy organization on polio eradication, held this year’s program on 24 October at the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The event brought some of the biggest names in the campaign together to highlight the progress that has been made and to discuss what further action is needed to end the disease for good.
Here is a summary of this year’s World Polio Day event, by the numbers:...
