"As a kid I was obsessed with Harry Houdini. I became convinced I could do escapes just like him. I had my sister lock me in a large tool box. Fortunately she let me out when it became apparent that I wasn't Houdini."
What was your scariest moment?
Leo's scariest moment.
"In the early 70's I drove a cab in Milwaukee. One night my fare said "give me all your money" I never looked back to see if he had a weapon I just shoveled everything I had back to him. After that I never drove a cab at night. Also I never told my mother."
What was your most memorable moment??
Answer: "I loved theater and getting to play one of the leads in Look Homeward Angel was the high point.”
Background info: There were two female leads in the play, Eliza the old mother nag of the protagonist or his beautiful young love interest, Laura. You know which one Mary played!!
P.S. There is much more to this story just ask her.
.
What was your proudest achievement in school??
Bill Mowbray related that after kicking over the props in an elementary school drama production I pulled. myself together in high school. I was a trumpeter in the school's brass chorus. After playing the same piece for 3 years at the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo & Ensemble contest, we finally won first place with a perfect score.

The TLC Orphanage in South Africa is a children's home our club and the Orphan Train Project have supported for several years. ... Pippa, Thea's daughter, is now the director. We did contribute to the purchase of several security items last year, but obviously not all that was needed. I'm happy others have also stepped up to help.
Dear EDWARD,
Wow, what a week we've had. It seems a good time to launch our first official monthly newsletter, to share with you the crazy week that swung from the lowest lows to the highest highs.
You may have heard by now of the horrible armed kidnapping of three of Thea's boys - it made the news and local media. You can read all about it here. The kidnapping happened less than a week after an armed robbery where Thea was assaulted. Mighty, Pippa's son had a recurrence of his ear tumour and needed surgery. We were scrambling to address security and pay debts. It was a very low, low.
But the silver lining was there, waiting.
A local radio DJ picked up on the story, and that's when our Christmas miracle happened. SOS ProtecSure, a local security company, came on board to give us an all-inclusive security system and 24/7 armed response and offers for help poured in from all corners. We know many of you stepped up to help us and we want to say, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! Our village is phenomenal, and you affirm our hope in the goodness of people every day.
We are consolidating all our news into this new format and you can expect to receive one monthly email with all our news. Of course, you can see more frequent news on our social media channels.
Please feel free to invite friends to sign up to this newsletter and follow the TLC journey.
Roger Wolkoff spoke with us about ‘What happens when you are real’ in dealing with others. He spoke of the value of trust and accountability in communications, how to be aware of the right communications style for a given situation, and how to remain true to who you are. Vulnerability is not a weakness; it’s a strength that people appreciate. The more you convince people you’re trustworthy and authentic, the more loyalty you’ll command. No matter our occupation, it’s all about people and relationships. His talk was filled with enthusiasm and humor, with plenty of interactivity.
Our current Outbound Exchange Students are both doing very well. Lucas Taglia is in Argentina. He wrote “I'm doing great here. I've already fallen in love with the people and culture here. I have a wonderful host family and school is going good. I just got back from the south trip, 22 days touring much of the sites Patagonia has to offer. Absolutely picturesque. A lot yet to look forward to.” Lucas sent along this picture (attached).
James Ekman is also doing very well in India after getting through a typical homesick stretch. He loves his Host Family and has made many new friends; really enjoying himself.
James Ekman's family will also be Best’s 3rd Host Family here.
They both express great appreciation for the opportunity provided them by our Club.
Our Exchange Student from Thailand, Best, gathers with his Host Families at Dan & Mary Fose’s house.
Best will be moving to his 2nd family (Svein & Cindi Morner) just before Thanksgiving.
Please include Best in weddings, baptisms, confirmations, bar/bat mitzvahs, funerals, athletic events, zoos, museums, ice skating, birthday parties, downhill/xcountry sking, snow shoeing, etc.

This is our 6th year doing this voluntary fundraiser within our club. In past years we have raised between $5,000 - $6,000 each year to support Foundation projects.
The By-Laws for the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, state the following:
Section 1 – Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of this club shall be the first regular meeting in December of each year, at which time the election of directors to serve for the ensuing two years shall take place.
Our Club’s first meeting in December will be December 2nd; however, District Governor, Dean McHugh, will be visiting our Club that day.
Due to other scheduling conflicts, the Board of Directors has chosen to move the Annual Meeting to Friday December 16th at which time the election of the directors will take place. The Board of Directors wants each club member to be aware of this change in the date of the Annual Meeting.

Take a short walk from the convention center to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. There, you can see the handwritten notes, speeches, and sermons of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., experience an interactive 1960s-era lunch counter “sit-in,” and learn more about persecuted groups all over the world.
