Aug 05 We will meet at the Arboretum near the visitors center for lunch. Our very own member (and previous Arboretum Director, Greg Armstrong) along with current director, Karen Oberhauser, will conduct a short tour ending up where Paul Harris planted an oak tree in 1933. August 19 Madison native and world class bridge player, Glenna Shannahan, will discuss her craft and has taught on several cruise ships including the Crystal, Royal Canadian and Princess ships and played in ports of Greece, Turkey, England and Ireland. Locally she teaches at the bridge club of Madison. A player needs 500 points to become a master bridge player and usually takes 3 to 10 years to accomplish. Glenna has a whopping 7,000 points and is the only master teacher in Wisconsin. Program by Jim Olmsted (through Sharyn Alden).
August 26 County Executive, Joe Parisi, will bring us up to date on county government affairs regarding, cleaning up lakes, climate action, harmful gases made into natural vehicle fuel, to "Suck the Muck" from the Yahara River and
renewable energy programs. There will be time for questions and answers. Program by Jim Olmsted.

September 30 Lori Bessler of the Wisconsin Historical Society will talk about the top 5 genealogical collections in the United States and Canada. The staff brings together Services that include workshops, consultations and reference to assist researchers of all levels. Lori, Reference Librarian, will present information on the basics of genealogical research and highlight the amazing collection you will find at the Wisconsin Historical Society. October 14 Our own Dana Monogue, Superintendent of the Middleton School System will discuss the upcoming referendum. This will be an on-site luncheon at the brand-new Pope Elementary School, next door to the Pope Farm where we often picnic. Program by Kathy Roberg.
Our normal Board meeting is on the third Wednesday of the month at noon. This month, for scheduling reasons, it’s on August tenth at noon. All members are welcome to attend to see how the Club operates. If you let the Secretary (jack46ferreri@gmail.com) know ahead of time, he can send you an agenda. These days, we’re meeting at Kathy Roberg’s Presidential Cabana at (Harbor House Condominium) 802 Harbor House Drive (which is right off Watts Road).
We have openings in the fall we’d like to fill before too long. Interesting topics make our Club a fun place to visit. Sit down with a notepad and a coffee or adult beverage and think of the people you know … neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. Surely some of them have interesting hobbies, engaging volunteer work, professional careers, leisure adventures, deep knowledge in some fascinating corridor of human knowledge. Talk to them about the possibility of their speaking to us at MWM Rotary.
Yes, we’re just weeks away from Middleton’s Good Neighbor Fest. Our bingo concession generates FUN, FELLOWSHIP & FUNDS! We have had a great initial sign up and have many spots filled already.

The MWM ROTARY – (Madison West Middleton Rotary) has applied for a $500 grant that we will receive if we have 10 (now I hear 15 – bring your family) people volunteer for the IRONMAN OF WISCONSIN. No, not a lot of money – but a lot of fun at a huge community event … that is all good and fun!!
Jenny Aune (yes, wife of Steve) is in charge of the Run Personal Needs area on the Capitol Square Sunday, September 11th 2022. She describes this job in this way: “This is at the halfway point (13.1miles) of the marathon portion of the race. The athletes drop their bags to us before the race. (04:30–06:30 am) There are opportunities to volunteer early or in the afternoon. In the afternoon we hand them their bag as they run by our station. It’s really fun and inspiring.”
For many years, the Madison West Towne – Middleton Rotary Club held an ongoing fundraiser called “McAdow Miles”, designed around Charter Member Jerry McAdow’s love for biking. In recent years it has evolved into “Team McAdow” to include participation by others who enjoy biking in a group.
We try to schedule a group ride each Saturday morning, starting in March and continuing into November, as the weather permits. Our bike rides are typically 10-to-18-mile loop rides (versus out-and-back), on off-road bike trails (as much as possible) with interesting sites, away from noisy highways, and sometimes include coffee shop or bakery stops, preferably with outdoor seating. Madison and Dane County offer a great variety of bike routes.
Now, with our expanded membership, we would like more members to join our group rides. We welcome other family members and friends to participate. This year, a number of riders are using their E-bikes.
The fundraiser aspect of Team McAdow is very low-key. We haven’t been asking for per-mile pledges, but we encourage our riders, other Club members and non-Rotarians to make annual contributions to this event. We will provide additional information in the coming weeks. Perhaps more than anything, Team McAdow provides an opportunity for us to spend time together doing what we enjoy – camaraderie, exercise and fun!

We will meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot in East Verona where East Verona Avenue intersects with Hwy PB (southwest quadrant - enter off PB). We’ll make a clockwise loop around Verona, starting west on the Military Ridge Trail, past Verona Beach, Verona High School and Epic, back east along PD, north along M, and back on the Ice Age Junction Trail. Most of this ride will be on off-road bike paths. There will be a couple hills to make it interesting, but we will have a nice long downhill glide at the end. The total distance should be about 12 miles.

We’re in the SOUTH TOWER. Parking is easy and undercover. We’re doing this on a month-to-month basis right now, but it may lead to a long-term arrangement.
Our meeting place is circled in red on this map. 6th floor. For parking, follow the blue arrow on the map to underground parking. Go left once you enter the ramp. Parking is free; park in any unassigned spot. Go to the covered walkway to enter the building and grab the elevator to the sixth floor.
