Dr. Stacey Bean founded and runs Indigo Trails as a holistic wellness center that offers retreats, workshops, small group and one on one private coaching sessions in the areas of human empowerment, mindfulness, and healthy living practices. She tells a compelling personal story of loss and triumph. We learned the importance of ‘following our TUG.’ That’s a hard or sudden pull in our lives driven by our subconscious. She studied three years with a shaman, has a Masters in Exercise Physiology, as well as a medical degree. She was inspired by a Joseph Campbell quotation: “We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” She works with the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method, finding that horses relate to and heal people in a special way. Her approach relies on four pillars: physical, nutritional, emotional, and spiritual.

Tony Burns is heading up a 4:15-7:00 pm Nov 20 volunteer gig at The River Food Pantry (2201 Darwin Rd, Madison). This will be one of our 12 x 12 events – trying to get a volunteer event with 12 Rotarians every month of the year. Tony will be making an announcement this Friday and passing around a signup sheet. We’ll also be presenting the Pantry with our $1,000 annual check. Note this is two days before Thanksgiving, so it will not conflict with your own bird activities.
As part of the board’s initiative to simplify the Treasurer’s responsibilities and provide more insight into the financial statements, the club’s board of directors approved transitioning QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, establishing an audit committee, and hiring Sandy Gruber, a bookkeeper. The bookkeeper’s responsibilities will mainly be to process transactions in QuickBooks, including sending invoices to club members. The treasurer will issue checks, create
the budget and review the financial statements. Sandy works out of her home and also maintains records for other nonprofit organizations so we think she is a good fit for our club. She started training with John Olsen in October. Sandy has served as the administrative office for the Wisconsin Chapter of the Risk Management Association for several years, an organization in which Derek Moehring has been active for many years. She also serves other Midwest chapters of the RMA. Sandy lives in rural Spring Green. We’re hoping she will be able to attend one of our Club meetings in the not-too-distant future, so you will have an opportunity to meet her. Our initial estimate is that Sandy will spend about ten hours per quarter supporting our Club. Her billing rate is $20 per hour, so the estimated cost will be about $800 per year. At the same time, in accordance with the club bylaws, an audit committee was established with Derek Moehring as chair. The audit committee will establish procedures to perform an in-depth review of the books and records. They will have access to QuickBooks and will be able to review activity. With the hiring of a bookkeeper, we wanted to retain control of the cash and bank accounts with a club member.
We’ll be needing some Board members come July 1 of next year. We need to get them announced and confirmed before the end of this year. We’re looking for members in International Service, Community Service, Club Service, and Vocational Service, as well as a President-Elect. Extend your service to your Club and learn the details of how we do all the good things we do. Talk to President Matt Loch or President-Elect Dawn Frank for details. Rotary: Making a Difference.

I am our Club liaison to the Middleton HS Interact Club that we co-sponsor with the Madison West Club. This is a great opportunity for us to plant some Rotary seeds for the future. These kids need and want to volunteer, so please let me know if you have a project they could volunteer for, so we can start helping and building a relationship with this Club.
Jim Olmsted has taken over scheduling speakers for our Club. If you have some specific program suggestions or topics you’d like to hear about, contact Jim at jolmsted7562@gmail.com.
