A non-profit since the late 1990s. Sustain Dane’s mission is to foster a rich and diverse community of sustainability champions. Its goal: To establish Greater Madison as a national model for sustainability and sustainability innovation. The organization has units for schools, for the workplace, and for the broader community. An Outdoor Learning Network introduces kids to a greater understanding of nature and the outdoors. They’ve just finished their Ninth Annual Conference: Badger Bioneers at the end of November. For businesses, Sustain Dane runs a Sustainable Business Network, now in its 5th year and with eighty members. The effort creates and recognizes MPower Business Champions -- an effort that’s yielded 500 projects which saved $1.7 million and kept 59,200 pounds of CO2 from our atmosphere. And they have several other important programs working on the environment, story-sharing, and community equity.
Sustain Dane is a broad-ranging effort to make our community friendlier to the environment. Learn more at sustaindane.org
A generous McAdow’s Miles for Rotary Team supporter has presented us with a Pledge Challenge. For each pledge made by a person who is not a member or a relative of a member of the Rotary Club of Madison West Towne-Middleton, an anonymous sponsor will donate $25, up to a total of $1,000.
Your tax-deductible Pledge will help fund our Rotary Club's ongoing activities both in our local communities and internationally.

Purpose:
Feedback from numerous Rotary surveys and focus groups has repeatedly shown that prospective members and current younger Rotarians require flexibility in their Rotary Club membership. This program is structured to research alternatives and the resulting impact on membership trends and our club’s overall effectiveness.
The Business/Corporate Membership Program will allow a business or other organization to become a member of the Rotary Club Of Madison West Towne-Middleton (hereafter, “Club”), through an established membership approval process, and to appoint up to three (one Primary Member and up to two Designee Members) as the individuals attending Club meetings, serving on committees, voting on club matters and serving as club officers (Primary Member solely).
Designees:
Once there is a Primary Member, the Eligible Business may designate up to two Designees Members, each of whom shall be individuals employed by the Eligible Business.
Attendance:
The attendance requirement for any Eligible Business is the same as an Active Regular Member of the Club. The attendance requirement can be met by a combination of attendance from the Primary Member and the Designee Members.
Fees:
a. Initiation Fee: $125.00 *
b. Dues – Primary Member: Annual dues of $275.00 * which covers:
1) Rotary International Dues
2) District Dues;
3) The Rotarian Magazine;
4) Miscellaneous Rotary International Charges
c. Dues - Designee Members: Annual dues of $0.00 *
*This amount will be reviewed by the Board of Directors annually.
d. Meals: Primary Member and Designee Members: Both Primary and Designee Members will pay for a meal every time they attend a club meeting. The cost of their meals will be the same as the cost of a meal for a regular member of the club. The Eligible Business will be invoiced for all meals eaten by the Primary Member and the Designee Members.

The morning is the annual DTTS – District Team Training Seminar – where District committees come together to report on what they are doing now and what their plans are for the future. You will hear reports from all District committees like Youth Programs, Visioning, Foundation, Membership and Friendship Exchange just to name a few. This will help update the Board and generate awareness on all that is happening in our District and the resources available to help. With so much change in Rotary and the District in the last few years, this is certain to be time well spent.
Our own John Gerold (Bingo Czar) leads a group of volunteers to run bingo games at Oakwood Village – University Woods at 6 – 7:30 pm the third Thursday every month from October through May.
Sign up on the pass around sheet during Friday meetings.
John will send a reminder and logistical information to each volunteer ahead of each session. This activity also qualifies for a meeting make-up, if one is needed.
Just wanted to let you know that the Board has been doing some financial heavy lifting to get the Club and Foundation books in top shape and clear up some past glitches. Treasurer Jim Emerick has been leading the charge. But the time demands on Jim have proven overwhelming, and he's decided to resign from the Treasurer position as of November 10th. We're close to bringing a new Treasurer to the Board, and several Board members (John Gerold, Derek Moehring, and Dawn Frank) have been pitching in to finish getting our finances where they need to be. We thank Jim for his service. In the meantime for all Treasurer related items please communicate with Dawn Frank. Dawn can be reached by email at ddfrank@mac.com or by phone (608) 217-2105.
We will keep you all posted as to when then new Treasurer takes over. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at your earliest.
Thank you for being a part of the Coolest Rotary Club in the World.

Each year the Central States Rotary Youth Exchange Program offers a trip that our youth exchange students have the opportunity to take. They can choose either a West Coast or East Coast trip. Alicja would like to go on the West Coast trip.
Central States Rotary Youth Exchange Program promotes it to the students like this:
"Are you ready for the West Coast of the US? Get ready for an awesome adventure on the United States West Coast! During this trip, we’ll not only have the time of our lives at Disneyland and California Adventure Park but we will also ‘party like a rock star’ on the famous streets of Los Angeles. We will visit Rodeo Drive, the Kodak Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
You won’t forget the secrets of Universal Studios, as well as the attractions at the unique Santa Monica Pier – landmark and famous location of world’s movie industry. What about going to one of the world’s most visited destinations? Yep! We’ll indeed make a stop in San Francisco. We will visit The Golden Gate Bridge and Chinatown on our tour. Get ready for breathtaking views from the top of the Grand Canyon, outdoor activities at Yosemite Park and a fun tour of the San Diego Zoo – with over 4,000 animals to admire! So many tours to take, so many things to see and so many friends to make!
This trip was all designed for you, the Central States Rotary Exchange Student, who has always wanted to explore! This tour is your chance to see some of the highlights of the West Coast of the United States!"
As you can see this is an exciting trip and a chance for Alicja to see more of the United States while she is here. The prices for the trip are listed below and the $2,350 does not include her airfare or any spending money.
West Coast 2018 (June 9-23, 2018- $2,350 US airfare into Los Angeles not included)
East Coast 2018 (June 9-23, 2018 - $2,350 US airfare into Philadelphia not included)
Alicja's family can fund some of the trip yet leaves her short funding to go. While we have some funds collected for her already, and Jeannine Desautels and Deb Dieter have graciously offered to help Alicja put together a fundraising dinner, she will still be short and we need your help. Dan Fose has opened up a savings account for her to keep her donations separate from her regular monetary needs while she is here. We already have $300 collected and thank those who have donated.
We thank you in advance for your support. Your donation is greatly appreciated. You can donate at the Friday meetings. A collection envelope will be circulating to put your donation in. You can also watch for information regarding the fundraising dinner and participate that way.
Since we are looking for a Youth Exchange Officer (YEO) for our club (did you know we were looking for one?) I thought it might stir up some conversation if anyone is interested to go to a training session in February.
The date has been set for the face-to-face youth exchange volunteer training. This training is required for Youth Exchange Officers and Youth Exchange Counselors. We also welcome other club members who are interested in working with Rotary Youth Exchange students including our Youth Protection Officers. Please mark your calendars, 9:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the CLARION HOTEL AND CONVENTION CENTER, 626 W Pine Street, Baraboo, WI, 53913.
All aspects of youth exchange rules and regulations will be covered, however; we welcome your input on those topics that you would like to see covered during the training. Please feel free to e-mail me, Brenda Weiss bkweiss61@gmail.com, with suggested topics.
Registration information will be made available closer to the training date.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
If you are volunteering with youth (one-on-one)? Mentoring, Youth Exchange, RYLA, Academic Decathlon, High School Business Plans, Etc... You must have an annual background check completed. This only applies if you are working with youth one-on-one. If you are in a group more than 2 people, you don't need a background check.
