Former Club member Jack Coe spoke to us about his lifelong fascination with aircraft and the military. Born in Brooklyn during the Depression, Jack’s interest sprang from his father’s employment with Grumman Aviation Co. After Jack moved on to music degrees and a Ph.D. from Indiana, he taught for a time (to include a stint at the Air Force Academy), then worked as an educational legislation consultant for WEAC here in Madison. Twenty-two years ago, he was going through his father’s old materials from Grumman, and his interest in aviation reignited. He would up working as an archivist for the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, cataloging materials of deceased flag officers. Over the years he’s written fifteen articles for the United States Naval Institute, the Association of Naval Aviation, and the American Aviation Historical Society. In the spring Jack’s book on the dramatic story of a retired Naval Aviator will be published by the Naval Aviation Museum. | John W. "Jack" Coe |
