Cost Increases to Members

Budget - 2022-2023Our members recall that we previously held our meetings at the Zor Shrine building here in West Madison. However, that is no longer an option, and indeed, meeting spaces at this time are limited. Serendipity Labs has provided us a good space, good tech capabilities, great parking/location and potential for catering. So it works for us and we are committed to this space through at least June of 2023. However, reality is that Zor cost us $200/month; we were paying $300 for Serendipity labs last year but are now paying $400/month.

The board reviewed this financial obligation and felt it appropriate to add $5/month per member to cover our meeting room expenses starting Oct 1, 2022. That will be an additional total of $45/member for this year.

We will review this proposal with our annual budget for next year.

Rotary Environmental Days of Service

Some resources to get you going:

McAdow Miles Team Fundraiser

For years, led on by the powerful calves of Jerry McAdow, several riders have been bicycling together on Saturday mornings for exercise, for companionship, and for the sense of adventure. We’ve asked Club members to support our efforts by pledging dollars to the Rotary Foundation. It’s an important Club fundraiser. We are asking for pledges in the amount of $50, $100, or $250. This is your chance to give a boost to the Foundation’s coffers. We’re gonna ride no matter what!

Board of Directors Club and Foundation Meetings
August 10, 2022
FINAL MINUTES v 1
Note: THIS WAS A HYBRID MEETING

Board Members in Attendance: Jack Ferreri, Connie Fish, Kevin Hayden, Rod Nilles, Peter Overton, Paul Patenaude, Kathy Roberg
Members Absent: Jim Emerick, John Gerold
Guests: None

CLUB MEETING
Called to order by President Kathy Roberg at 12:05pm.
SECRETARY (Ferreri)
  • Consent agenda for minutes and Treasurer Overview. Motion by Overton, second by Nilles. Motion passes.
TREASURER (Loch)
  • No reports other than overview
PRESIDENT (Roberg)
  • Discussion re meals: We’ll have a sign-in that tracks attendance and whether attendees have the provided meal or not. Greeters will push attendees to sign in for both. We will not bill non-eaters for the meals. We’ll continue to track how many members eat the meal, since this is important to our vendor (TNT) and may impact future operations. We’ll charge attendee/eaters $16 for the meal -- $13 for the meal itself and $3 to cover room rental, etc.
  • We’ll need to add a line item in the budget for guest meals. A member that brings a guest must pay for that guest (or bring food). The Club pays for speakers, prospective members, and special guests (like the Rotarian exchange student heading overseas). For Treasurer: we should have a line item for $630 for these meals.
  • Roberg will solidify dark dates for the rest of the year (days on which we will not have a meeting because of holiday or other Rotary event). This should be communicated to venue, food vendor, activity chairs (through Avenue of Service chairs), and membership as a whole.
  • Roberg will be out travelling for two weeks.
PAST PRESIDENT (Fish)
  • No report
CLUB SERVICE (Nilles)
  • We’ll reinitiate Club Raffles, with ticket sellers and prized.

24 October 2022 is World Polio Day

As World Polio Day approaches, we’re getting ready to amplify our message about eradicating polio to protect the world’s children from this devastating disease.

We’ve made tremendous progress so far, and now’s the time to intensify our fight to make polio the second human disease ever to be eradicated. In 2020, the World Health Organization’s African region was certified free of wild poliovirus, showing that eradication is possible even in very difficult circumstances.

The wild poliovirus remains endemic in just two countries — Afghanistan and Pakistan— but as long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. So let’s use World Polio Day to advocate for the support we need to end polio in countries where children are still as risk.

Get involved
Take action this World Polio Day by hosting virtual and community events, creating fundraisers, and sharing posts about the importance of polio eradication on social media.
