Luke is an Oral Historian with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. He told us of his work interviewing veterans about their experiences and turning those interviews into a resource for people to learn more about our nation’s wars. He detailed the process involved and spoke about how they need to keep an eye on the future in terms of technology and safeguarding these irreplaceable narratives. The Museum has 2,186 oral histories.

Be prepared to do a bit of badge hunting when you look for your badge at the meeting tomorrow. The Directory has been updated, and some badges have moved. All are in alphabetical order.
Tickets for our annual fundraiser “Basketball Slam” have arrived. You can pick up a pack of 10 tickets at our weekly meeting. Each membership ticket is sold for $10.00, the pack is $100.00. There are instruction sheets in each pack.
You check out a pack and then return the stubs with names written legibly on them and money to match each stub to Deb Dieter by March 20, 2020.
If you sell someone two tickets, they can get a free third ticket by registering online (do not give them one of your tickets!!)
How does someone win? There is a scratch-off area on each ticket. Below that area are the codes for 4 NCAA basketball teams (see the back of the ticket for team names). The total score of your teams in all their games is the score for your card. The highest score wins $200; 2nd highest $100; 3rd highest $75.00; 4th highest $50; and the lowest score $75.
Checks should be made out to the Rotary Club of MWT-M Foundation.
Winners will be posted following the Championship game on April 9, 2020. Prizes will be emailed to the winners.
We have two active reading groups made up of Club members. One led by Jeannine Desautels, the other by Deb Dieter. The Current books for these groups are Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. The groups meet every other month at a member’s home, with appetizers and wine. It’s a great time to catch up on your reading and get to know another side of fellow Club members. Check these groups out … or start another one!
Our Club is in need of one more host family for the 2020-2021 school year. Your help in recruiting a family within the Memorial High School district is greatly appreciated. Please have the family contact Donna Brendemuehl, Youth Exchange Officer! dbrendemuehl@yahoo.com
Hosting an inbound exchange student can be incredibly rewarding for your family, bringing an international experience directly into your home. You do not have to be a Rotarian to participate in the RotaryYouth exchange program. Host families provide room and board and share their lives with exchange students, involving them in family, community, and cultural activities. All host families are screened and trained. Because Rotary’s goal is to give our inbound students a diverse cultural experience, families (or couples or even individuals) typically host a student for only a few months. The local Rotary Club covers the cost of school lunches, basic cell phone and a modest monthly stipend to the student for pocket money.
I am excited to share some good news: Rotary International and Toastmasters International are working together to provide our members with even more opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Toastmasters International is a global nonprofit organization with more than 16,800 clubs in 143 countries. Its members attend club meetings where they give speeches, evaluate the speeches of others, and perform other club duties, with the goal of ultimately becoming more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders. Our organizations are complementary in many ways, but we are each unique in what we offer our members. I hope you will join us in supporting this alliance in your community. You can start bylearning moreabout Toastmasters, exploring itsresourcesandpublic speaking tips, or visitinga local Toastmasters club. Although the structure of club meetings is consistent, Toastmaster clubs are similar to Rotary clubs in that they each have their own personality. If you do not have a club in your area, you can watch a video to learnwhat happens at a Toastmasters meeting.
You can also invite members of Toastmasters to visit your club and learn more about Rotary. If you have a Toastmasters club in your area, consider meeting with its members to explore opportunities to collaborate or inviting a member of Toastmasters to participate in a service activity or speak at your club.
Toastmasters will create a leadership development program for Rotarians and Rotaractors. A structured, robust leadership and communication curriculum can help members develop practical skills that will serve them not only in Rotary leadership roles but in their professional and personal lives as well. Effective leadership skills can strengthen our clubs and increase our impact. We will provide updates about this program when we have more details.
Many of us joined Rotary to make a difference and connect with others in our communities. By working with Toastmasters, our members can discover new ways to network and learn from others, while finding even more value in their Rotary membership experience.
May 17-19, 2020 at Camp Upham Woods, Wisconsin Dells.
Established as a Rotary Structured Program in 1971, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. The Rotary District 6250 RYLA program is a camp designed to build future leaders and Rotarians who exemplify the four-way test.
Who can attend?
Each year Rotary Clubs can sponsor students from local high schools to attend (it is strongly suggested sophomores be chosen, however, this is not a requirement)
Adult Rotarians are always welcome and needed to help facilitate the Conference (and to come to have fun!) What is the cost?
The cost to attend the camp is:
$200 if complete paperwork is submitted by April 1, 2020, and is paid by the local Rotary Club.
$225 for any registrations with paperwork arriving after April 2, 2020 - April 17, 2020.
Please Note: Due to club response and camp limits we will be at a maximum occupancy this year. Availability will be on a first apply, first filled basis. All paperwork must be submitted to guarantee a spot.
Please note that transportation is the local Rotary Club’s responsibility.
