You'll find out when the president of the Verona Historical Society, Jesse Charles, presents the program. May 7 – Jacob Burks will tell us all about Wisconsin High School Rodeo Contests. Yes, a program where high school boys and girls compete in a real live sanctioned rodeo. These high schoolers compete in bucking bronco riding, calf roping contests, queen of the rodeo pageant, belt buckle prizes, parades, college scholarships and more. It's big. The Wisconsin rodeo has been held for many years in Richland Center. Don't miss this unique program that many of us didn't even know existed.

May 28 – No Meeting. Memorial Day.
June 4 – Awarding of High School Scholarships, funded by the Club
June 11 -- Our own Dennis Zitnak will present a program on SPAM--- that's right SPAM. Everybody makes fun about SPAM including Monte Python skits. Even the name SPAM has morphed into computer language meaning trash or junk. But SPAM was an essential food product for our US and Allied troops in World War II. The product was created in 1937 and is sold in 41 countries on 6 continents. Hormel, who makes this canned pork meat concoction, has its headquarters in Austin, Minnesota (Dennis's hometown). Dennis even worked there while going through school. The narrator of our program today is employee Jeff Johnson who will tell us about the fascinating SPAM museum.
Jim Olmsted runs the speaker program. He’s provided us with a range of interesting speakers over the last few years, both flesh-and-blood and virtual. But Jim’s fertile mind could use some assistance in coming up with program topics and contacts. Who do you know that could present us with an interesting program … hobbies, company insights, sports, hunting, crazy collectors, you name it. The only exclusions are politics and speakers that just want to sell us something. Think about the people you know … neighbors, old/new friends, people at your office or social club. Do your ruminating and then send an email to Jim at jolmsted7562@gmail.com
Lizzie Gietman has joined our Club. She’s a realtor with Spencer Real Estate Group and is already getting herself involved in activities. Give her a Zoom wave at our next meeting.
Dan left for sunny Florida a number of years ago but has returned to our sunny climes. He’s living in Middleton and will be joining one of our upcoming Zoom meetings.
This is a significant Club fundraiser and a carriage full of fun. 7732 Riverside Rd, Verona, WI 53593 with Training, Preliminary and Intermediate level divisions with an added Tandem Class this year!

We will have an expanded marathon track, great dressage and cones and fun for everyone. Volunteers have been Rotary club members from the “coolest” Rotary club in the world - Madison West Town Middleton Rotary Club along with horsey supporters and friends.

Nancy Nelson of Westfield, WI will be show secretary. We are honored to have these wonderful people support our show.
Come compete, watch or volunteer. We guarantee a fun day!
We don't often write with breaking news, and with Congress poised to take action on coronavirus relief this week, we wanted to answer some of your questions right away.
Is Pledge My Check still active?
Yes! Since last spring you have shared more than $87,000 with 73 families from the LCEC and Centro Hispano. Dozens more are eligible. The impact of your contribution is real and important.
May I redirect my new COVID relief check?
Yes! Here’s how it works:
Donate all or part of your check on the special Pledge My Check giving page.
Together the LCEC and Centro will randomly draw from among eligible families.
Together we’ll give those families the money with no limitations, just as it was given to us.
What if I'm not eligible for a relief check?
You are still welcome to give. Many Pledge My Check donors note that they aren't eligible for relief but want to make a direct impact in a family's life. Simply use the Pledge My Check giving page to direct your contribution this way.
As you know, there are still plenty of families for whom this kind of timely financial boost would make a very big difference. For some of us, this is a relatively painless way to live out our values. If this is not a way you can give, please know that all of the other ways you contribute to this community are deeply appreciated.
We will send more stories and photos from the Center early next week.
