Thanks to the efforts of most of our Club members, and a lot of hard work by the Golf Outing Committee members, we were able to exceed our Goal of raising $20,000.00 for the 2018 Charity Golf Outing. There were a total of 128 Golfers signed up, this was 88.9% of our goal of 144 Golfers and raised $12,800.00 in revenue. There were a total of 26 Hole Sponsorships obtained, which equaled 86.7% of our goal of 30 Sponsorships and raised $7500.00 in revenue. We sold close to 75% of the Golfers the “Golfer Package” at $30.00 each, which included 5 Mulligans and 10 Raffle Tickets, which brought in another $2560.00 in revenue. The String Game was sold to close to 50% of the Golfers at $20.00 each, raising another $1160.00 in revenue. The Silent Auction outpaced all other facets of the Golf Outing by raising an outstanding total of $4873.00 in revenue on a total of 29 Packages, equaling 162.4% of our goal of $3000.00. The Dixon Golf Challenges helped with another $800.00 + in revenue, and a few small donations were made by some members which added to the final total. After all the expenditures were paid, our total revenue to the Foundation came to approximately $21,100.00!!! The weather turned out to be another bonus for everyone there, as it was perfect for golfing. The participants and volunteers all enjoyed excellent food and fun with a full cookout served after the golf. We awarded a total of 12 Hole Contest prizes and 3 Team prizes to the foursomes with the lowest scores during the after golf program. Raffle prizes were also won during the program, and our Club’s ShelterBox tent and displaywas set up at the 1st Tee Boxes throughout the whole day to help educate the non-Rotarians about one of our service projects. All in all, an excellent Charity Golf Outing was conducted this year, definitely our best ever.
The generous contributions to the MWTM Rotary Foundation, Inc. (Orphan Train Project) by Peder and Jeanne Moren and Mary Barnett made possible the Montessori training for "Elen" of TLC in South Africa. Elen has now finished the first of three online segments and proved to be an "A" student. You may remember Joanna Jones telling us Ellen's story. A pregnant Elen came to TLC as a young teenager, the victim of rape. TLC raised Ellen and her baby. Ellen is an adult now, working in the nursery. Without these contributions, Elen's training might not have been possible. It is an important step in her career. At some point, TLC may create a Montessori school and accepttuition-paying day students to attend, along with their residents. In any event, her training will enhance the experience of the little people living there.
Many years ago, when I was the Inbound Youth Exchange Officer for our club, I had the privilege of working with many fine students. One of them was Victoria Luperi from Argentina. While in Madison, Victoria was a student at Edgewood High School and a member of WYSO. I happened to do a search for her and found her website to be very well done.
Be sure to check out the video production, which would be nice to show our members. It has music and an interesting interview. The thought also occurred to me how nice it would be to have her play with the Madison Symphony Orchestra (Mick or Connie probably have the connections). Also, it would be fun to have her be a guest speaker at a Rotary District Conference. Rotary Youth Exchange might get some mileage out to this as well.
A few years ago, Victoria was in Chicago with her husband. I had a chance to communicate with her, as did her Edgewood High School music instructor, Dennis McKinley.

Our club has been participating in Rotary Youth Exchange for a long time. I'm not sure exactly how long we have been involved. I joined the club on 2-14-14. Shortly after that, at my first district conference, I told Toni Pabon that I would help her out temporarily while she looked for someone else to take her place as YEC. Needless to say, I fell in love with Youth Exchange and have been doing it ever since.
Responsibility for booking speakers in the new year will fall under the Club Service chairs. Connie Smith is coordinating this new team. At present the team members are Jeannine Desautels, Ruth Domack and Jack Ferreri.
Recently the Middleton High School has formed an Interact Club. Interact is the high school version of Rotary. Through Interact, Rotary clubs invest in young leaders. Rotarians guide, support, and work alongside young people as they build leadership skills, serve their communities, and increase international understanding.
The Madison West Towne-Middleton Rotary Club is co-sponsoring the Middleton High School Interact Club along with the Madison West Rotary Club. As a co-sponsor, we share responsibilities for guidance, mentorship, and support. When Rotary clubs partner to co-sponsor Interact clubs, they increase the number of Interact supporters, strengthen their community collaboration, and share responsibility for youth service. By working together as co-sponsors, Rotarians expand their network beyond their own club and build new friendships.
Please let me know of any events or special situations in our fellow Rotarians' lives where a card, flowers, or a plant would be appropriate for their situation.
District 6250 is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all participants in Rotary activities. It is the duty of all Rotarians; spouses, or partners of Rotarians; and any other volunteers to safeguard to the best of their ability the welfare of and to prevent the physical, sexual, or emotional abuse of children and youth with whom they come into contact.
