October 15th McAdow Ride?

On Saturday, October 8, 2022, Leo and I had a nice loop ride around Fitchburg. They have a lot of new paved bike paths, particularly in the east and south parts of the city. Lots to see - red sumac, and maples turning color. Wildlife included deer, sandhill cranes, turkeys, and even a lesser egret (probably figured Wisconsin was a better place to be this month than Florida). Points of interest included SHINE’s Heliopolis and Phoenix Imaging facilities, and the fairly-new Barnwood meeting venue. The total loop was about 16 miles, including 7 miles on the Capital City Trail.

For this Saturday, October 15th, I’m going to be visiting family in Oregon and Leo will be cheering the Badger football team in Michigan. Paul and Peter are hiking through Italy. So we don’t have a ride planned. But if one of you like to set something up, please do so. You have the email list here. In any event, you should get out on your bikes this weekend and enjoy the fall weather and color.

We’ve been receiving pledges and donation for our McAdow Miles fundraiser for several weeks now. If you would like to consider making a donation to our Rotary Club’s Foundation, you can access the information and download a flyer on our Club’s Webpage: madisonwestrotary.org. Thanks to Paul Patenaude and Mary Cobb Dunn for making this available.

Military Veterans in Our Club

For many years our Rotary Club recognized members who were military veterans by publishing a listing of those members on or around Veterans Day each year. The member who kept the list is no longer with us and I would like to re-establish the annual tradition of publishing a listing of members who were Veterans.

To that end, I am asking each member to provide me with the following information regarding
your military service
  1. Full name as you would like it published
  2. Years of Active Service (example 1959 -1962)
  3. Branch of Service
  4. Overseas Service years
  5. Overseas Location
  6. Honor Flight participant: Yes or No.
If you had several years of active Reserve Duty, that should be included.

With the merger of the two clubs, it should be an interesting list and maybe a few good stories
will come out of it.

If you are not a Veteran, please respond stating that fact.

If I don’t get a response, I will be calling you directly. Hopefully you will save me from spending
time on the telephone.

I would like the information emailed to me as-soon-as-possible and no later than October 21 st
Thanks for your time and help.

You Are Invited!

On Monday, October 24, 2022. Madison West Middleton Rotary will observe and celebrate World Polio Day.  We will gather together for social time at Paul's Neighborhood Bar, located at 2401 Parmenter Street, Middleton WI from 4PM to 6PM.

You are encouraged to bring your family along.  This gives club members a chance to get to know you and your family at a social level, lets your family learn more about what you do as a Rotarian and how we help support the world through great causes like this.

Please note that this is a no-host get-together and you should prepare for that.  Plan on ordering appetizers and drinks from the menu.  It would be helpful if several people could combine so that there aren't as many tabs for the wait staff to handle.  You can check out the menu here:

Please reply to this email if you plan on attending and let us know how many will be attending.  We look forward to seeing you there, and don't forget to thank the people at Paul's for sponsoring our Golf Fundraiser!

Long-term Funding of Rotary Foundation Activities

Recently, I connected with Rotary President Jennifer Jones and Foundation Chair Ian Riseley about the role the Endowment plays in the long-term funding of Rotary Foundation activities.  The result is a special message for you from two very dedicated Rotary members, who share a strong appreciation of the power of Rotary’s Endowment.

Click here to read President Jennifer and Foundation Chair Ian’s personal message.

Click here if you would like to continue this conversation with a member of our team.  We are here to discuss the many ways you can nurture your own legacy with Rotary!

As always, we are deeply grateful for the dedication, service, and generosity you share every day.  Thank you for taking the time to learn more about how you can make an impact with Rotary today and for generations to come.

McAdow Miles Team Fundraiser

For years, led on by the powerful calves of Jerry McAdow, several riders have been bicycling together on Saturday mornings for exercise, for companionship, and for the sense of adventure. We’ve asked Club members to support our efforts by pledging dollars to the Rotary Foundation. It’s an important Club fundraiser. We are asking for pledges in the amount of $50, $100, or $250. This is your chance to give a boost to the Foundation’s coffers. We’re gonna ride no matter what!

These days, we’re meeting at Kathy Roberg’s Presidential Cabana at (Harbor House Condominium) 802 Harbor House Drive (which is right off Watts Road).

Live Club Meetings are Here

The meeting place is Serendipity Labs, a co-working facility on the 6th floor of the Johnson Bank Building at 525 Junction Road Madison, WI 53717 (right next to Panera Bread). We’re in the SOUTH TOWER. Parking is easy and undercover. We’re doing this on a month-to-month basis right now, but it may lead to a long-term arrangement.

For parking, follow the blue arrow on the map to underground parking. Go left once you enter the ramp. Parking is free; park in any unassigned spot. Go to the covered walkway to enter the building and grab the elevator to the sixth floor.
