Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about the proposed Verona Miracle League field, the community partnership behind it, and how you can help make it possible.
The Vision & Project
What is the Verona Miracle League?
The Verona Miracle League project is an effort to create an accessible baseball facility in Verona where children with disabilities can experience the joy of baseball, build friendships, and participate in a supportive community.
What is the Miracle League mission?
The Miracle League is built around a simple belief: “Every Child Deserves a Chance to Play Baseball.” The program creates opportunities for children with disabilities to experience baseball in environments designed around their needs.
Why is another Miracle League field needed?
Miracle League of Dane County currently operates programming in Cottage Grove. A Verona location would complement that field and expand geographic access for families in western Dane County and surrounding communities.
Where will the field be located?
The proposed project is being developed on Verona Area School District property in Verona. Final site and lease arrangements remain subject to approval.
When will the field open?
An opening date has not yet been announced. Fundraising, agreements, design, approvals, and construction must progress before a reliable opening date can be established.
Partners & Organization
Who is leading the project?
The project is a collaborative effort involving Rotary clubs throughout Dane County, community partners, and supporters working together to bring the Verona Miracle League to life.
What role will the Verona Area School District play?
The Verona Area School District is a key project partner and is working with project leadership on the proposed location and associated agreements. Final arrangements remain subject to approval.
Who will be responsible for the facility?
A new Dane County Rotary-affiliated nonprofit foundation is being established to support the project and provide appropriate long-term stewardship of the facility and site rights. Final legal and organizational arrangements are still being completed.
Who will operate the baseball program?
The current plan anticipates Miracle League of Dane County operating baseball programming through a separate operating agreement. Final programming arrangements remain subject to approval.
Funding & Sustainability
How much is the project expected to cost?
The overall project is currently anticipated to cost somewhere around $6 million. A final public campaign goal and detailed allocation have not yet been announced.
Does that amount only pay for construction?
No. Financial planning is intended to address more than construction. The overall project includes the field and supporting facilities as well as planning for maintenance, operating reserves, and an endowment strategy intended to support long-term sustainability.
Can individuals and families support the project?
Yes. Individuals and families interested in supporting the project can submit a pledge inquiry. A campaign representative will follow up to discuss opportunities and next steps.
Can businesses become sponsors?
Yes. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to explore sponsorship, community partnership, employee engagement, and other opportunities to support the project.
Will naming and recognition opportunities be available?
The campaign expects to offer donor recognition and selected naming opportunities. Specific opportunities, commitment levels, availability, and recognition terms will be announced after they are formally approved.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Official giving instructions, charitable-receipt information, and details about the authorized receiving organization will be provided as the campaign structure is finalized. Donors should rely on those official instructions and consult their tax adviser regarding their individual circumstances.
Players, Families & Volunteers
Who will be eligible to play?
The project is intended to expand baseball opportunities for children with physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. Final age divisions, eligibility requirements, registration procedures, and participation policies will be established by the program operator.
What is a Miracle League buddy?
A buddy is a volunteer who supports and encourages a player during a Miracle League game based on that player's needs and program guidelines. Buddies may assist with batting, navigating the bases, fielding, or simply enjoying the game.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteer opportunities will develop throughout the project, including fundraising, outreach, community events, sponsorship development, and eventually baseball programming.
