Team McAdow Bike Rides

Our first Saturday morning bike ride of the season for Team McAdow happened last Saturday, April 23rd.

This ride, starting at the Odana Hills Golf Course, took us through the UW Arboretum, then on the Wingra Creek Path to Olin Park, around Monona Bay, and back on the Southwest Path – about 1-1/2 hours. Some extended the ride for a few extra miles.

Our Saturday rides are typically 10-to-15-mile loop rides (versus out-and-back), on off-road bike trails as much as possible, away from noisy highways, and often include, as the weather improves, outdoor coffee/bakery stops. We have a great selection of bike routes in Madison and Dane County (and sometimes beyond).

We welcome other family members and friends to join us on our Saturday rides. We are very sad to say that we will be missing Carol McAdow on our rides this year.

McAdow Miles has been a great fundraiser for our Rotary Foundation (with no expense) for many years. In recent years we haven’t been asking for per-mile pledges, but we encourage our riders, other Club members and non-Rotarians to make annual contributions to this event. Perhaps more than anything, it’s an opportunity for us to spend time to together doing what we enjoy.

If you would like to join us, or for more information, please email or call John Olsen, at johno.olsen@gmail.com, 608-220-2826. We try to email a ride plan to our riders on Thursday or Friday each week.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards - Lunch

With the exception of two pandemic years, Madison West Towne Middleton Rotary has been highly involved in RYLA – Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.  The leadership training program for high school sophomores is designed to build future leaders.  For 2022, we are providing scholarships for five students to attend RYLA.

Additionally, we are again providing lunch for the students and leaders on Saturday, May 21.  It’s a big effort to coordinate and implement the planning, shopping, preparing, and serving to approximately 150 people in three waves.  Your help in any of these areas makes this a fun project. Typically we leave Middleton/Madison around 8:30 am and finish around 1 pm. This year we are hoping for the optional opportunity to see a training session in action after lunch so you better understand the value of RYLA.

Please plan on being at our planning meeting on May 13, after our Club meeting to learn which part of the process you will want to sign up for. It’s a great opportunity for you and your family to enjoy fellowship with Rotary members.

WELCOME Y'ALL

Ready for Lift Off?!! We are ….  First stop – Register for the Convention

On behalf of the Host Organization Committee, we cannot wait to welcome Rotarians and guests to Houston and the great State of Texas for the 2022 Rotary International Convention.  The saying goes that everything is “Bigger”, “Better” and “Friendlier” in Texas, and the goal of the Houston Host Organization Committee is to have each of you feel that every moment as our guest while in Houston! From the humble beginnings of this great city, Houston has been led by “People of Action” who have taken this City to great heights including, to the moon and back.

The City has plenty of activities to keep you entertained.  Visit Space Center Houston, the home of Johnson Space Center and the Astronauts.  Enjoy a night at the theater.  Houston features a world-class symphony, opera, ballet and permanent theater company.  World-class museums are within a short ride from the convention center.  Of course, you can watch the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park which is within walking distance from the Houston Convention Center. Second stop – Host Committee Events

Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the world with a vast range of cultures.  Houston’s diversity has resulted in some of the world’s best cuisine.  Houston’s vast array of restaurants includes Creole, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, African, Caribbean, Argentinian and of course our very own Tex-Mex and world-famous BBQ, to name a few.

Stay tuned to this website for some exciting things to look forward to during your trip to Houston!

We look forward to welcoming each of you personally to Houston in June of 2022!!

New Mask Policy

Effective at 12:00 am on March 1, 2022, Public Health Madison & Dane County no longer requires face coverings in public indoor spaces in light of steadily decreasing COVID-19 case rates and hospitalizations.

“Letting the face-covering order expire doesn’t mean that the pandemic is over. Rather, it signals that we have made it through the Omicron surge and are entering a new stage of the pandemic,” said Janel Heinrich, Director of Public Health Madison & Dane County. “The most important thing you can do now is to stay up-to-date on our vaccines as they have proven to be highly effective in protecting you from becoming severely ill, ending up in the hospital, or dying from COVID-19.”

As stated at a previous meeting we are making a change to our attendance policy. We will no longer be requiring members and guests to wear a mask during our in-person meetings.  Please note that we will no longer be asking attendees to be vaccinated in order to attend in-person meetings.  We know that this is a very personal choice for all.
